  • Aldi Stainless steel 6 cup stovetop

    Hi all,

    Anyone wanting to either get a stovetop or upgrade from an aluminium one theyre using (hot drinks from aluminium pot heated over flame doesnt sound good to me!) might want to check out Aldi on August 19th http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_14812.htm

    It might not be the flashy one youve always wanted but for $15 you cant go wrong. This is cheap enough that every CSer without one in their arsenal should get one, stovetops are great! Ive never understood why some people plug away on their cheap and nasty <insert KMart machine here> that just burns coffee when you can get such a good cup from one of these.

    In case you cant tell I love two things in life - stovetop coffee and Aldi specials. What are they going to sell next?!?

    Regret there is no Aldi anywhere near where I live...

        my housemate bought one of these to use the scrap grinds up that i throw out when dosing and cleaning out the shute of the grinder.
        will these grinds be too coarse for a stovetop?
        should i do a seperate finer grind for the stovetop?

          I dont get exactly what you mean, but stovetop needs to be pretty fine. Not espresso fine, youll either clog it and get steam coming out of the pressure release valve of have a burnt, bitter drop if it does make it through with it being that fine.
          Im not sure how to explain the grind sorry, start just a little courser than espresso packed lightly and work back till you can fill the basket and get the majority of your water through.
          Stovetop grind and process is hard to describe because theres no real set rules like espressos dosage weight and tamp pressure. Just play around with grind and dose, youll soon figure it out, its pretty easy.

            oh i thought it was finer than espresso machine grinds.
            coarser hey? ok will try that. but what i meant was that he is using the stuff that ends up at the base of my grinder when i am grinding into PF instead of them just being thrown out,.

              Where is my gag-reflex emoticon? My wife did get out to Aldi and get one of these for me to muck around with. I will promise however to grind fresh beans... although I imagine that the results will taste like Ive sourced my grounds from the bottom of the vacuum cleaner for the first couple of brews while I dial the thing in!

                Nah, youll be right! Theyre really forgiving, too fine just leave it a little loose, if you go too course just pile it up and palm it down a little.
                The best tip you can get it to start with boiling water - dont boil from scratch with coffee in the basket, youll make it pretty stale by the time you get it to boil. Starting with freshly ground coffee, and freshly boiled water, youll get pretty good results.
