Re: Is this a great deal? Espresso newbie with another question!
Sunbeam is running a promo whereby they give you the em0480 (which is more expensive than the em0450) free if you buy the em6910.

edit: just realised that the rrp for the 6910 is more than I thought it was :-[ , still be worth trying to get the stainless grinder instead though

$660 is a bargain and the Sunbeam will teach you a lot about making good coffee. I was in your position 12 months ago and went with the Sunbeam combination after reading all the reviews.
The instructional DVDs that come with it are very helpful for a beginner. The tamp that came with it was quite acceptable for starting out as well. It came with a jug and all I bought was a thermometer for the milk and after a while a knock box.
Now comes the "but"....in the 11 months we had the machine it went in for repair twice >
..each time being out of action for weeks. By the time it went in for the second time we were already well into our coffee journey and decided to upgrade at this point.
Having said that we were able to get almost all of our original purchase price back on evilbay so resale value was good.

Another point with The Good Guys, you can delay picking up the goodies for up to 4 weeks. (At least at their Penrith Shop). This might give you time to do more research if you want.
That said, that is a great deal!

Excellent price for what it is as Chris said not perfect but at that price it represents great value. Have a good read of the Sunbeam threads in the $500-1500 section and make your own mind up on the reliability issue.
Tamper, Jug, Knock box, milk thermometer, Cleaning tablets and Training see if you can get some or all of them thrown in

Yes!Originally posted by 123E373734340E3F0E16343425302322510 link=1282024223/0#0 date=1282024223Is this as good a deal as the sales guy made out?
Factor in a jug; perhaps a knock tube. You will get a crude tamper with the machineOriginally posted by 123E373734340E3F0E16343425302322510 link=1282024223/0#0 date=1282024223What else will we need eg tamp, cleaning equipment etc?
Training, training, training. Sunbeam may well still provide a freebie orientation course.Originally posted by 123E373734340E3F0E16343425302322510 link=1282024223/0#0 date=1282024223Will this unit be too complicated to use for people who have never used an espresso machine before?
Do a search. There are plenty of dead Sunbeams, many of which were killed by owners who didnt look after them well...Originally posted by 123E373734340E3F0E16343425302322510 link=1282024223/0#0 date=1282024223but if this is a great deal and the EM6910 is a good reliable machine
Keep in mind that these machines are appliances and may well reside at the tip in a few years. It all seems to depend on whether you get a good one or not. Toss a coin

Is this a great deal? Espresso newbie with another question!
Originally my wife and I had a buget of $200, so I was looking at the best way to go and it was looking like:get a good grinder and stick with plunger coffee for now.
Today I was at Good Guys and they said they would do the Sunbeam EM6910 with the Sunbeam EM0450 grinder for $660 cash. Going by RRP it should be around$1000. I have almost convinced my wife of going for this deal, but I have a few questions.
Is this as good a deal as the sales guy made out?
Is the EM6910 the kind of machine that will last if taken care of?
What else will we need eg tamp, cleaning equipment etc?
Will this unit be too complicated to use for people who have never used an espresso machine before?
Sorry for all the questions, but if this is a great deal and the EM6910 is a good reliable machine, I think Ill be able to convince my wife to let us get it.
Thanks again for your help.Tags: None
