Howdy All,
Up until recently I had a wonderful combo singing and dancing in my kitchen that comprised of the Faema Family and a Mini Mazzer; until a few days ago when the Faema started literally spitting water in my face through the top grill. Upon further inspection, I noticed the plastic outlet of the pump had cracked where it scews into the brass fitting.
So off to coffee parts and I order a replacement pump . . I ordered the Part no.: 620402 Part name: vibrating pump 1/8-1/8 w70 v220/50 found on http://www.coffeeparts.com/misc/motor1.html .
It arrived today and looked sexy as ever as it was sporting a complete brass inlet and outlet. However, the inlet does not have a barb on it to fit the silicon tube from the water tank- Doh! It just has a 1/8 thread (as displayed on the website - my oversight! :-[) I should have included part 700043. Anyway, Ill fix that in a few days with a drilled bolt and a hose clamp or something from a local fitting shop.
As Im an inpatient p**ck, I fitted the pump anyway and placed the tubing into the inlet and sealed it with some "blu tack" - just as a temp.
Okay, so I fire it up. Firstly I notice the pump is remarkable quieter than than my old one (my old pump was was really loud compared to other familys Id heard) but this new one was really quiet.
It all seemed to be running fine, but Im noticing the pressure is not as strong and the group is falls low on water output after about 20-30 seconds. I need to prime the boiler before a decent shower comes out. I cant actually remember if this is normal or not?!
Is the part I ordered the correct one for Faema Family?
2ndly, Is the drop in pressure just because I dont have a good connection on the pumps inlet?
Your help will be greatly appreciated
Cheers.

from what you describe. Sparky knows a lot more than I do about the Family and Im sure he can help you out. The Diode though, is required to provide a Half-wave Rectified Output to the Coil of the Pump. This effectively gives the pump an operating frequency of 25 Hz and as a result, full stroke of the piston inside the pump body. A 50 Hz supply only allows the pump piston to operate at half or less its designed full stroke and thus provides for a lot less output and a significantly less amount of noise too.
