  • D.I.Y naked PF

I know theres already threads on home handymen naked group handles, but was somehow unsuccessful in turning one up in a search.
maybe I didnt try hard enough, but I just wanted everyone to see how easy it is to get a near professional finish with a hole saw and a drill press, plenty of patience and some wd-40.

Sorry, I didnt take any photos of the actaul process, had both hands on the job. but I might be doing another one soon, so ill endevour to take a few snaps.
It only really took about 5 mins and I got a fantastic result.

theres also some pics of it in action in the pour art thread in the art gallery. http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?nu...068083/150#150

    Looks great.

What size hole saw did you use and what speed did you run your drill press at?

      Re: D.I.Y naked PF

      Thanks for posting the pictures.
I have 5 group handles, and 2-3 are super ugly. I was thinking of chopping one with the grinder, but the hole saw is so much neater.

Sorry tearocks, I somehow missed your post.
The size saw I used was I think 52mm, As Ive got 52mm baskets, so it fitted snug inside the handle.
Main thing is just to put a few in your handle to see what fits best, basically if you get one as close to a snug fit as possible, it will help centre the bit in the handle so you get a nice even finish. and that way you can also be sure that the whole bottom of your basket is exposed underneath the handle.
as for the drill speed, I set it to go as SLOW as it could, drilled with a very light pressure and PLENTY of lubrication. The end result needed only VERY minimal sanding with about 400 or 600grit wet/dry sand paper to get rid of the burr around the edge and then a final polish with a rag and abit of brasso.
whole process really didnt take me more than about 10 mins.
          GREAT result.
let us know how you go/have gone.

Did it from top to bottom, so the hole saw was housed inside the handle while drilling.. maybe itd be easier If I just took some photos of the process.

Ill try and get round to that this weekend.

Let us know how you go SS.
