Hi everyone
I have been using my ECM Giotto Premium almost every day for some time now, and I love it! However, I am embarrassed to say that I have not been backflushing regularly... :-[
Today I thought I would go ahead and backflush the machine for the very first time. I found some instructions on the internet specific for the Giotto, and off I went:
I put some backflushing powder in the blind filter, attached the filter handle to the group head and ran some water. According to the instructions, "when you turn the pump off, water trapped in the portafilter escapes through the pressure release valve". This is where things went wrong! I dont think the water that was trapped in the portafilter went anywhere! When I tried to remove the filter handle there was obviously a whole lot of pressure built up, and when the filter came off the group head there was a big BANG
and half my kitchen was covered in a paste of backflushing powder and hot water! The shower head and a heavy rubber ring also came flying out of the group head and landed on the kitchen floor.
Can anyone tell me where I went wrong? And pardon my ignorance, but where exactly on the Giotto is the "pressure release valve"?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :P
Cheers!
Yulia
