Shouldnt the puck be slightly under the screen, rather than touching it at lock in time?

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
What others have said + 1. Just received my Barista tamper and love it:
1 Custom made to fit the basket.
2 Can customize with the supplied spacers.
3 Nice weight and feel.
4 Looks great.
For me it combines the practical benefit of a precise fit (reducing the potential for chanelling) with a nice looking bit of gear.

Thanks 2mcm! I had suspected as much but its a model number iterated in a number of posts so the conspiracy theorist in me wanted to ensure that I hadnt missed/overlooked a machine produced that would kill a Synesso, was available at the local HN and cost under a grand.... :Originally posted by 326D756368636F666665656D616E000 link=1299019276/24#24 date=1302306927Looks like its a typo for a 6910?Originally posted by 6A7A6D7C7C3A3B38303F3B080 link=1299019276/23#23 date=1302306173could you please let us know what a 9610 is?

Sorry to go OT but for clarity could you please let us know what a 9610 is? A quick google search reveals about the same level of info as this great looking new Breville.

My coffee has improved because the tamp is now flatter and more even, but I think there is a sweet spot after which the tamper becomes jewellery, which is fine, its visible and sits in the kitchen like other decor. It would be interesting to see a chart of tamper brands, their diameters, weights, base polish, etc to see where the engineering leaves off and either the euphoria of using a piece of art or the engineering affects the tamp and hence coffee. After all we are taking the perfect tamp, pushing it into a group, and then twisting it and pushing against a less then perfect screen which wil probably cause some of work to be undone.Originally posted by 71564754476A161A220 link=1299019276/0#0 date=1299062927This is a genuine question - I have looked at people raving about Pullman - but the tamper provided with My Breville Fresca does the job, and the combination of freshly roasted beans
Some tweaks for me have been brands of baskets used, different brands have different shaped holes (hence area and spray pattern, yes have a stereo microscope to have a look) for the same depth of basket.
Biggest tweak was use fresh coffee and grind size :-)

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
Haha I know how you feel, my coffee equipment is already worth about the same as my car, and I am thinking about buying a Rocket Evo soon.. I should really upgrade my car first but my car doesnt making amazing coffee....Originally posted by 7B64667C6570676671090 link=1299019276/19#19 date=1302170255(This from a person who has a car that is worth less than half the value of his coffee equipment)
I also want a pullman tamper down the track.

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
I got my Pullman today, and just wanted to say how nice it was. Even if it didnt improve my coffee, Id be happy with just how nice it is sitting on the bench.
That said, after pulling a few shots, its pouring more consistently into two cups, and more consistent throughout the pour (this being an upgrade from a $20 ebay tamper). It just feels nice to use, and although its probably not something everyone would need or be able to justify, I do not regret my purchase in any way. (This from a person who has a car that is worth less than half the value of his coffee equipment).....Its another step towards coffee perfection

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
Steve, if youre still following this thread, thought Id share my findings since I got my Pullman this week. On the whole, its already been an improvement - at least from a consistency side. It is now far easier for me to get a nice, level, even tamp first time up.
I also no longer need to tap the portafilter after tamping to get the grinds that cling to the sides - the Pullman just fits so well they all get tamped down nicely.
I still need to work on my grind/dose/tamp routine, as Im still getting to know my newish K3T. Too many variables (let alone the muppet driving it all) to say "this has made my coffee taste better", but in terms of making things more consistent (and thus allowing to deal with the other variables easier), its a winner.

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
Im certainly glad I bought one! It is fitted to the basket and what a great convenience that is. I think you want consistency to make great espresso and this is just another step to get there. Plus it looks cool! ;D
The rings really work for a newbie like me too. I tamp on a Cafelat Bumper and raising it that little bit makes the rings really visble and therefore you know if you are tamping level or not.
Oh, and another reason to get one. When you go to a shop & they ask you which tamper you have and you say "Pullman". They never try to sell you anything else! Enough said!

Re: Should I Buy a Pullman Tamper?
Yes Steve, long after the price is forgotten the quality remains.Originally posted by 50776675664B373B030 link=1299019276/12#12 date=1299147478n terms of value for money a Pullman tamper will outlast me (and I have probably got at least ten years to go), so I will work on S.W.M.B.Obeyed. Meanwhile my supplied tamper seems to be doing all that is required of it most of the time, but those Pullmans do look beautifu and they are a work of art - I want one and I want it NOWl!!!! Cry

Mood=Cynical? Never!
If you do a bit of reading on CS I think youll find this is the position I always take whether were talking tampers, machines or whatever.
