Re: The Tamper of Tampers
be easier to spot a flat tamp with a taller one because the deflection at the top would be greater for smaller angles than a shorter tamper... not sure about stability though.
Still, all very nice! Now to source some marine grade stainless bar from somewhere and a small fortune to finance it.

Re: The Tamper of Tampers
it looks a bit too tall to be functional as an everyday tamper for me

FB,
Thats one impressive tamper. I always say - theres nothing like absolute over engineering!

This kind of thing is what separates the coffee drinkers from the coffee geeks!

Re: The Tamper of Tampers
I really dont think in the final (convex) that it really makes any difference. Might give you a bit of extra room between the screen and grinds but thats It, Well thats what I think anyway, I could be wrong.
No need to Tamp anyone Tom........ Got quite a few Long lengths of steel pipe that goes BANG, Rabbits and Foxes dont like it, and Piggie Wiggies squeal over it. ;D

Your tamper looks great, could use it to TAMP intruders.
Would love to try a convex shaped tamper ... wonder if I could taste the difference.

Re: The Tamper of Tampers
lol R&R youve seen the size of me..........The Gorilla Tamp is only minor compared to what I could really do.... We call it the King Kong Tamp.....lol
On seriouse note, this morning I used it again and put a very smal ammt of extra pressure on it (5lb) and I have to admit that it is very nice to use. I Tamped and turned the filter over and no grain loss.... I hit that magic button that produces black gold and timed the shot (29sec = 55ml) Im happy with that.... I must admit I like using it.
Hey Tom maybe if we combined my Tamper with your new machine we might have an even better set-up lol ;D
I would never want to drop it, oh
the damage it would cuse to my timber floors and to the tamper.

So this is it.
I dosed the filter and then just placed the tamper on top and made sure it was level and twisted 2-3 times and then removed it. Used the weight of the tamper to tamp. Worked well.
Id love to know what the cost of something like this would be in the open market.
Best Tamper I have ever used, I would say there would only be a few of these in the world. but now im boasting
