    Re: Brewtus

There are a few places advertising the Expobar Barista Junior (aka Brewtus). At the $2300 asking price, that is one very good value machine.

This is one of the best quotes that seems to sum up this machine:
"I roll out of bed in the AM, grind my Code Brown, pull shots for my daughter, wife, and myself knowing that the only variable will be the state of the beans, and I smile. Then I pull another shot... Ho, hum... another consistently wonderful shot... wonder what the poor people are doing... "

With fathers day just past, Ill have to wait until at least Christmas before even dreaming of owning one of these babys.

                Hi Chaps,

Im just about to place a order for Brewtus (I think is going to called "Barista Minore"),
Ive Bean asking around (non expobar sellers) they telling me that the "expobar isnt as good as the others" Your thoughts? Someone told me it just fit and finish? or does it go deeper with inturnals?

                Cheers

                  Mad_Barun:

The build quality is evidently a bit average in some respects but overall I think it is pretty good. Not in the same league as a Cimbali though.

If you want the precise temperature control though then there isnt really anything else on the market (yet) that would make it as easy to get precise temperature control as the Brewtus.

It certainly isnt going to break on you, I wouldnt think so anyway.

If you want a top quality two boiler machine you could consider the Reneka Techno which has two 1.4L boilers and a rotary pump and can be plumbed in for a bit over 3k. This doesnt have the same ease of temperature control though that the Brewtus has.

                  Regards,
                  Grant

The other machine Ive been looking at was the La Spaziale Vivaldi s1.
has any one heard what the machine like? Sounds like the Brewtus (without the E61 Group)
I cant find any dis from aus, sent countless emials over there without any luck?
At the mounment Brewtus is winning by default?
                    What to do?

                    Cheers

                      Hi Mad Barun,

Another user on these forums (hrh68) had recently upgraded to a new S1, you could ask him about his ownership experience. He purchased it from the Bean Alliance, but said that it took a number of months for the order to arrive (Feb->Aug).

                        Re: Brewtus

After owning an expobar for a few weeks, (and having opened it up once or tiwce to see whats inside) I can safely say that theyre well built, solid machines.

Where they save money in production costs is the body, or the skin - corners arent as flush as they could be, the panels dont all line up perfectly, the drip tray is plastic - though not on the brewtus ... (at least my plastic one wont rust like my old sunbeam one was), and its safe to say it wont win any beauty contests... Theyve obviously spent all their money on the guts and whacked a cheap skin on it all. If you can live with these minor imperfections, then youll be satisfied.

I even got comments from a mate who owns a bezzera, that he was really impressed with the expobar.

As for how it works - it works superbly. The importers/distributors give them a good thorough service when they arrive in the country. Historically, expobars have tended to run hot, and need excessive colling flushes, but that problem is eliminates by the pre-sale service, so mine only needs roughly a 30ml colling flush. This is obviously a heat-exchange issue though, and the dual boiler doesnt have this problem, though it does help to run a similar heating flush prior to pulling a shot.

There is a forum for La Spaziale S1 owners around. They seem to be comparable to the Brewtus in temp stability from what Ive seen. They use a narrower portafilter though (53 mm?), which puts some people off.

Brewtus also has its own user forum, so theres plenty of info out there if you go looking. There is a guy over in the US who has modified his Brewtus to a dual PID controlled machine. Its a mod thats very professionally done, but the report from the users is that its not needed as there is no discernable difference in the cup compared to a stock Brewtus.

Id buy one tomorrow if I had the cash floating around.

                            regards,

I wouldnt be too worried about the narrow portafilter. Its pretty deep and you can dose plenty into it. One bonus is that with the much thicker puck, its pretty much impossible to get channeling 8-)
