They sit in the darkened cupboard, hoping for a return of the halcyon days when they were never too far from the stove. But alas, theyll have to sit out the remainder of their days as wallflowers on the shelf, getting the extremely rare airing on special occasions like this -- to have their group photo taken.
Yes, upgradeitis was alive and well then, too. It all began with the big 6-cuppers. Thats her on the right, the stainless steel somewht tarnished by years of gasfire and probably boiled-over coffee.
Instead of going bigger, we went progressively smaller. The 4-cup is second from the right.
Then, the four-"group"! Yes, even stove tops can have individual spouts. It was always difficult getting small enough cups to fit neatly under.
From four, down to a two-group...
And finally, the one-cup on the left. That gave so much service, and abuse. Usually, putting it on the stove, walking away to do something else, and returning half an hour later to the tell-tale smell of nearly-molten aluminium and burned rubber gasket.
And the gaskets werent easy to come across, let me tell you.
I have two more kept on the boat where lack of 240V power means having to use them.
I wont bore you all with the other "machines" taking up cupboard space like dripolater, french press...
