I think we will have to agree to disagree. I have posted my 6900 and 2 0480s in the for sale thread, so if anyones interested, give me a call.
Enjoy your Perfect coffee, good day to you.
Have I ever tried one? Yes, a Nespresso from a Myer store coffee machine display.
It was, as some have mentioned here aptly, mediocre. Everything about it from the thin mouth feel to actual taste.
That was some years ago -- i cant see how the system could have improved since then.
Skamp, I dont think making a true espresso is all that messy... groups flush themselves at the push of a button. Portafilters and baskets similarly only need a quick rinse. (In between the more infrequent chemical baths, which also require next to no effort)
In any case, this forum is all about striving for the best, to decry and discard mediocrity...
Otherwise, we may just as well take yet another retrograde step and say to hell with it all, just open a jar of instant "coffee, measure out a teaspoonful and just add hot water. Beats all the paraphernalia of expensive machinery, PIDS, precise doses, tamps.....
"I have never tried anything out of a pod which approached average..."
2mcm as an experienced taster has obviously tried pod coffee and found it to be unsatisfactory, no doubt for reasons mentioned earlier in this thread. Thats what it should be about - being prepared to try things if theres any uncertainty about what the result may be.
No-one here should tell you not to drink whatever if you enjoy it. But the fact is that were here because we want excellent quality coffee, and are prepared to spend the time and money to get it. That may not be everyones priority, including yours perhaps, but as far as espresso excellence pods and instant just dont produce the same excellent results that can be achieved with the right materials.
But at the end of the day, if youre drinking it and youre satisfied with the results, keep going!
No probs- just dont ask us to accept mediocrity....If a pod suits you suits, so be it but I have never tried anything out of a pod which approached average. If I cant have a great coffee, thanks but Ill pass...
I not saying your wrong and Im right, its the whole attitude of fresh is the only good coffee. I have had it fresh planty of times, and good coffees at that, but I still like nespresso coffee, enough for me to not put in the time to make it from scratch. I have only ever found one type of fresh bean that consistently gave me good coffee, and when I run out, I usually cannot be stuffed going out to buy more.
And when I make fresh coffee, I then have to spend time cleaning the group head and all the other accessories involved with making coffee, that I think to myself, bugger it, whack in a pod, no mess, just a good coffee, and I know, not the best, but good enough. I should also take a photo of my cupboard with all the stale beans in there gone to waiste because I only have 2 cups a week if that.
Yep - agreed TG. My take on the EMs are that they never (even the 6910) quite get to the sweetness of shot of the higher end boiler machine, but they will consistently make very good espresso time and time again with quick heat up and no need for more than a very quick cooling flush before the shot (or none at all most times). I have only realised the difference in shots relatively recently with having the Faema Due. Setting aside longevity (potentially) the EMs are very good for the dough.
Weight of number Mr Skamp. If you chose to come back into the fold and want to get better coffee you will get plenty of help on this site...once you master it a/you wont forget it and b/ you wont want to go to the dark side again!!!
Skamp I ran across a 6900 in the kitchen at work and have tried it a few times.
Whilst its not given me a coffee as good as I can make at home, it has impressed all my workmates that Ive made a coffee for.
Three so far. I asked all of them to taste the coffee before adding any sugar (they all usually take 1).
Each one of them decided the coffee was so nice that it didnt need sugar.
One of them has a Gaggia Classic at home but hasnt been using fresh beans.
I gave her some that Id roasted.
She was delighted with the coffee she was able to make at home and very proud that shed made some for her parents and they also loved it.
It came down to FRESH coffee being the difference.
And if I can impress them with a 6900 after only a couple of trial coffees, then how difficult a machine can it be to use?
Im not going to ask you to stop drinking pod coffee but dont let your taste and opinion get in the way of the weight of numbers.
Sorry to see you unhappy with us Snobs my friend, but really and truly you cant expect this site to support poddage...I have tried them several times and they really are not flash compared to well made espressos using fresh coffee ground....but they are def better than instant.
Skamp says: "I love fresh coffee. I own a EM6900 and have made great coffee with it. I have also waisted The Nespresso will give me what I want, when I want it, EVERY TIME. Its my mouth, my taist buds, my choice, and get of your high horses.[/QUOTE]
On my high horse the coffee is sweet and the fun preparing and pulling consistently sweet shots (with a very occasional exception, particularly when dialing in a new roast) is great.

Yes I did read that Greg, but my complaints are a generalisation.
A real Coffee snob in my opinion should love all forms of coffee.
In a word, an emphatic NO.
CoffeeSnobs is all about GREAT coffee, not mediocrity.... The hardware one uses to obtain the best brew possible, is not as important as the quality of the coffee one uses and the adherence to recognised preparation methods to squeeze out the best attributes from the bean. While Pods are a convenient method to use and possibly better than instant, it will never be great quality coffee. If you dont appreciate great coffee, well, thats fine.... With so many wonderful things available at our fingertips these days, no one person is going to be a connoisseur of everything.
However, we at CoffeeSnobs unashamedly love GREAT COFFEE and will continue to do what ever it takes to achieve this. This single-minded approach is not for everyone but it is the essential ingredient that binds all of us coffeesnobs together and I dont see that we need to apologise to anyone for that.... Long may we imbibe the best that the humble bean has to offer!
