  • 1st Expobar Minore II on my bench

Well they arrived today. I have tweaked the 1st unit and have it on the bench....

    Initial impressions....

Pretty well packed but only one group handle. They are not shipping with cool touch wands but standard 2 hole 10mm tip wands.

Pump pressure was set to 12 bar- but easily tweaked. My PF gauge and the machine gauge read similar- machine 0.5bar over what my pf gauge reads....

Stainless quality better than I expected....

    More- including pix to come....

    Looking forward to seeing this!

I will be after one of these in mid August. I have to fund a holiday first.

okey doke....yucky mobile fone pix.... Ill pop up some better ones tomorrow...

gauges- top is boiler pressure, bottom is pump....thermostat on the left (yet to play with temp. Stainless finish is better than I saw on the prototype....

NB Giotto group handle loaded in this pic....

1 average shot out of it so far.....I need to experiment!

Is there an offset on Minores? ie Is the temp readout exactly what comes out at the group? If not what is the temperature drop?
Im just guessing the 95*C on the front equates to boiler temp not group temp...?

Yep, theres a programmable offset. The 95C thing should, theoretically, equate to what comes out of the group.

I found an interesting thread on home-barista.com by John Bicht, the inventor of the Versalab M3. Basically, it says that theres a lot of inherent error in most temperature measurements: http://www.home-barista.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=4463

... but, of course, those measurements are likely to be repeatable using the same equipment. This means that Minore owners shouldnt expect to be able to just dial in the perfect temperature by reference to what someone else tells them, but should be able to repeat temperatures that they want. Of course, if you had two Minores next to each other, I guess you could tweak the offsets until a given blend on either of them tasted the same at the same displayed temperature value ...

            *end uber geekiness*

Hey Ill have one of those

Yep the temperature on the display is what should come out of the group.  I believe the offset temperature is the temperature difference between the boiler temperature and the brew temperature. The guys at home barista recommended setting the offset to -7, which equates to a 7 degree difference in temperature between the boiler and brew temperature.   By default the offset for the Minore I was said to be set to -6.  For back to back shots, a lower offset, such as -6 is recommended because the group retains a higher temperature from previous shots.  However for casual home use, an offset of 7 for shots more than 2 minutes apart was the recommended setting as there is sufficient time for the group to cool to the appropriate temperature.

Very nice - but Id prefer one without the engraved image of a person on mine.

Or was it the image of the devil seeing as the pic was posted on 6/6/06?

Hey - be thankful he was wearing clothes!
There are many examples on the net of people taking photos of a shiny object for putting up on auction sites without due care about what the reflection might show.

BTW - when did the number of the beast become 662006?

                              Chris,

Whats the tiny thing behind 3-way valve exit? Bits of water comes out from that tiny thingy.
