Go for a vac pot. You can always steam the milk with the Giotto.

oh oh - here we go again!

lots of nice people here with either of those machines....the better people have what Ive got...save your money, buy the best grinder you can afford before the machine, then pick a machine.
Having a more expensive machine just makes better coffee, not better people.  They dont even always make better coffee. :P
Well, I just couldnt resist - no-one ever asks, which machine should I buy - the giotto or the nespresso? :

Hi one and all. Im a novice to this game. Ive only had a perculator at home, and the time has come to get updated with some decent coffee. I survived on the stuff in my Navy days, and still do.

A mate told me about 2 machines that Ive now narrowed my choice down to.

One is the Sunbeam EM6910. And the other one is a Rancilio Silvia.

Can anybody give me a hand withe best choice to make here please.
They both make good coffee based on the plethora of info throughout this site. Might come down to aesthetics in the end. Ive got an EM6910 coz I scored it for half retail price. I couldnt refuse!

    Happy researching

Opened up a can of worms here and has been discussed in nauseating detail on http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1166787529

    Megastarr,

    Hi and welcome to CoffeeSnobs,

Yep, they are great little machines and can make really good coffee....

Price- thats a little hard as it depends on the condition etc.... how much it has been used and or abused...... but Id guess about $300 - $400 maybe a little more if in pristine condition.

    Good luck.

I think one of those just sold in the for sale section yesterday? So that may give you something to work off.

Thanks for that info, I feel a little better about maybe making the purchase, what sort of $$ are these worth? Do you know?

Gday Megastarr and Welcome to CoffeeSnobs [smiley=thumbsup.gif],

These are an excellent little machine MS and the Series II signifies that it has a 3-Way Valve which is a very good thing.... It allows the pressure built up in the Group during a pour to be instantly dissipated when the Brew Switch is turned Off facilitating immediate removal of the PortaFilter. Compared to your Breville, where you have to wait a little while before you can do this or risk wearing a veil of hot water and coffee grounds.... not very nice at all .

Probably the only thing you need to be wary of, is the same for any second hand goods.... that it is in good working order and has been well looked after by the current owner. Id get them to give you a thorough demonstration of all its features before making the big decision. In reality though, there is not a lot to go wrong with the Napolitana and if something does need attention over time, theres plenty of help to be found here on CS from current or past owners.

Let us know if you decide to buy and a few piccies of it when you get it home . All the best,

    Mal.

I am looking at buying a second hand machine it is a quaha napolatana, I have a simple breville at the moment which does the trick but feel that I may be due for an upgrade. The one I am looking at is a series  2. What does anyone think? Is this a good one?

Just lucked into a faema e98 & mazzer mini. The mazzer seems to work just fine but the faemas being a bit cranky. Anyone have ideas on how I could get hold of a faema manual & suggestions on servicing/maintenance (theyve both been sitting for at least two years).
