    As quoted from wikipedia

"a latte is prepared with approximately one third espresso and two-thirds steamed milk"

I have a large glass for Latte and I use a double shot with steamed/textured milk. Adding water would weaken the flavours and strength of the espresso IMHO

    Cheers

    Re: Sunbeam EM6910 & EM0480

Finally got my EM6910 after a 3 month wait. Seems the EM0480 grinder settings can be quite variable - mines on 18-19 with a standard 30ish lb tamp to get a 25-30sec shot. The ground is also very fluffy requiring a light tamp before refilling the PF (on a fresh dark roast).

The 6910 is working well (so far...). I gather that the first batch were retested on arrival in Australia before going out to the shops. Ive not played around with the temp settings yet as the crema is consistently good throughout the pull. Only a matter of time before the temptation to tweak wins though...

Mate the trouble with the EM6900 is probably overstated, because of the thousands that they would have sold - big numbers even compared to machines such as the Silvia (I have no figures or industry experience to back that up by the way - its an educated guess based on marketing, exposure on thus programs as A Current Affair, exposure in the shops such as Myres and Harv Norman etc, and price v features (and without doubt actual ability) compared to for example the Silvia which I only heard about on this site - you would have to go to a little specialty shop to get one and even then you might not be aquanted - for example at Merlos in Brisbane - best coffee and coffee suppliers IMO - they do not have the Rancilio range at all). There seems to be therefore a relatively small numbers of complaints particularly when you consider than quite a few seem to be borne out of performance issues when the operator gets educated to the point where he wants his/her $550-600 machine to operate like a $1100 + machine!

    Cheers

coffee chasher thanks for responding, i made my first latte tonight not bad really i had some ground coffee in the fridge from the super market .my method i used as follows - used the connection that makes two cups, pre warmed porter filler by pushing the manual button ,filled pf with coffee and pressed the button to make two cups in one, added small amount of hot water, then filled 2/3 of a jug with light milk light milk does not froth very well how doi get good froth ? the creme was dark and creamy the latte i made tasted better than the latte that i had at a coffee shop on the mornington pensula vic.what is the best coffee bean to buy roasted? enough about my latte, the em6910 is fantastic brushed stainless steal looks great i think once you get your head around all its functions the world will be your oyster as my dad says it is worth taking up the extended warranty for5 years that is offered this costs $59-00 peace of mind after the trouble with the em6900 what do you all think? will let you all know how the emo480 works for me cheers steven

Congratulations on the new machines Steven.

It would be fairly impossible for you to be given a number to set your machine on for grinder. Kind of how long is a piece of string question. Just be prepared with a swag of beans and the chance you may go through most of them before you get anything drinkable. As a "general rule" aim for a 25-30 second pour for 30ml shot. And once you get that adjust by taste.

Do yourself a favour though, Do not buy supermarket beans. If you buy fresh beans you will be much happier, taste wise and crema wise. Just wont taste right without decent beans. That is probably the only thing that people here agree on, the need for fresh beans. It may break your heart to waste more expensive coffee when setting up yoru grinder but you will be much much happier.

Any ground bean doesnt laste very long as far as freshness goes so you may want to find a local roaster who has fresh beans and will grind you up some but it hard because it wont be dialled into your machine. But seen as though you have a new toy you probably wont care about drinking bad coffee for a couple of days until you get your grinder. It would be too tempting for me to have a new espresso machine sitting there idle waiting for a grinder. Will give you a chance to pratice with the machine though and frothing.

    Enjoy!

    Hio Steven,

Congrates... you did your homework... well done...

My EM6910 is awesome... Much better machine than the EM6900....

Some changes that Ill note for this thread..

*The Thermoblock-Group head failures have been addressed with Longer Screws/\/Bolts
*Much tighter PF to Group fitting.. no need to pull the PF all the way to the left
*Pump (Brew) seems to have more pressure and can handle a finer grind, this produces a sweeter espresso... going finer again will net you a ristretto
*Brew and Steam temp can been adjusted.
*Steam can be made wetter or dryer (I have upped the Steam Temp - very dry steam and Im producing awesome micro foam textured milk)
*Although not stated, it seems it has a more stable temp of 92deg out of the box, which can be increased in 2deg increments up (or down) although I have no way of actually testing this.
*Oh, and Stainless steel upper body (brushed SS or Painted Red)
