Re: Tamper #1000 - for free!

    Thats a great offer Greg.

I wonder which will have the greatest collectable value, the very last of the 3 digit ones (999) or the freebie 1000?

Look forward to seeing which CSr scoops the pot for Christmas.

Too bad for me mine arrived last week.
          Nothing stopping you ordering another!

That I wont say. Because a few people know roughly how many tampers I sell per week, so if they knew where I was up to now they may be able to project roughly which week the 1000th would sell in, thus increasing their chances of winning. I want to keep it as fair as possible. But suffice to say, based on where Im at presently and the number of tampers I historically sell in the lead-up to Christmas, I would be very surprised if it didnt sell before the end of the year.

So you can probably see this promotion isnt designed to drum up lots of extra business for myself. Its just to acknowledge the help Ive received from CS, and since it wouldnt be much use chopping the tamper into 1000 pieces and sending you all a bit each, the next best thing is to give the complete unit to one CS member.

it is the one peice of equipment that everyone admires when in our kitchen! Silvia may catch their eye.. but she is quickly forgotten when they see my Pullman perched on top.

From what I have read in the past - the best bet would be to send you one of my baskets?

Re: Tamper #1000 - for free!

Definitely the way to go. Otherwise you can buy a LM basket from me and a tamper to suit, if theyll fit your machine.

                    Hi Brett,

Theyve all had serial numbers since late January 2003, so yours will definitely have one. Once I got to number 27 and wasnt able to keep it all in my head anymore I decided I may as well start numbering them, even though itd no doubt be over in a month or so. As I thought!!

Theyre all on the top part of the tamper, normally hidden by the handle. Just unscrew it and the number will be visible. Though doing that will break the threadlocker so therell be a bit more of a chance of it unscrewing during use after that.

I could tell you what number youll see if you wanted, but thatll spoil your surprise! But I will tell you that in your case there will be three digits, all of which are between 1 and 3 inclusive. Actually TigerStripe was just a particular patterning of Jarrah. Very popular and very attractive, I remember they didnt last long at all!

                    G
OK. Now taking into account that most of us here have an obsessive part to our personalities, and now I know there is a number on top of my tamper that I cannot see...

WHEN I break the threadlocker, what can I do to remedy that once I have placated my curiosity? Loctite perhaps?

I absolutely LOVE the tiger stripe. As it has gotten older and used more, the pattern is probably a bit less visible, but its a darn fine looking tamper in my opinion. I liked the product so much, I bought one for my brother-in-law as a present sometime later. It was for an older style Sunbeam (might have been checkerboard? not sure). I dont know if I should tell him about the serial number thing or not!

So, to anyone unsure about investing in one.. go ahead. It is very much worth it. And YOU could be the one (thousandth).

Loctite indeed! No rocket science there, but not everyone has it lying around,. Plus, $15 for 10mL of #222 is a bit steep at the best of times, especially when you only need one drop!

                        Whee.
                        I know my serial number.

And upon a nice close inspection of the tamper under good light, the tiger striping is still as good as ever. I just havent really looked closely at it for a while. Its just such a part of my routine, I suppose I tend to take it a bit for granted now.

Oh the geeky fun we have!

Yeah. I dont think itll jeopardise the competition calculations. I got mine quite some time ago.

Im not familiar with your tampers but if i were interested would i send you a basket for a fit?
I have a more unusual group size.

Hi PCR, yes thats always the best option. The only safe alternative which has become available recently is to purchase La Marzocco baskets from me and a tamper to suit, if you have a 58mm portafilter. Otherwise sending them in is definitely the best way to go; completely eliminates any measurement variables.
