    Re: Dumb Question

Yes it has a smallish hole in the bottom about the size of a the + tip on a AAA battery. Yes its steam pressure. I have a French press and it does just as good.

    thank you

      Re: Dumb Question

You could do a lot better as far as coffee quality goes, but if youre happy with whats in the cup then thats all that matters. If so, dont spend too much time on this site or that may soon change!

        Re: Dumb Question

If you use fresh coffee in it and your french press you will be impressed I am sure. What do you use in it now Justintime? Do you have a grinder?

          Re: Dumb Question

By the way, Justintime, congratulations on your question.
There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers. Jargon is often used by one section of the community to exclude others not considered worthy.

In relation to the tamper, the idea is to press down the coffee using 14 kilos of force. How do you know what sort of force that is? Practise on a bathroom scale, push down with a tamper until you get the hang of what 14 kilos feels like. Try it with your eyes closed. Open your eyes when you think youve got it, and check the reading to make sure.

Press down evenly so the "puck" the spent coffee after extraction is evenly thick.

          Good luck,
          Robusto

            Re: Dumb Question

I have my first order of green beans coming in very soon, maby today. I have a blade grinder but am waiting on a Burr Grinder to come in also. I just got a popcorn popper, but also have a heat gun. So Hopfully in the next days I will roast my first batch.

            thank you

                Sounds like you are hooked...

I liked the comment above by Greg Pullman,

"You could do a lot better as far as coffee quality goes, but if youre happy with whats in the cup then thats all that matters. If so, dont spend too much time on this site or that may soon change!".

                Sound like things are changing.

                Have an enjoyable trip,

                tmid.
