Re: Krups Quality??
Hi Skamp,
I have to say that I agree with one thing that youre saying and thats that at the end of the day, all that matters is that you have a cup of coffee that you enjoy in front of you and it doesnt matter whether it comes out of a tin or a machine setup that you have had to mortgage your house for. Actually, the thing that always amuses me is people obsessing about temperature to tenths of a degree and completely ignoring the fact that their coffee actually tastes bad.
As you have found out, specialty coffee can be quite rewarding if you take the time and effort to cultivate your palate and barista skills. I love the fact that I learn new things all the time and I have really enjoyed the relationships with customers that have grown from "could you make the milk a bit hotter" to "have you guys dropped out the ethiopian harrar in that blend" over time. I think that many of us here step into a role of putting people on a path to explore the possibilities and the nespresso system is pretty repugnant to that because the possibilities are very closed. At least with a superauto you can try different blends. (And, for the record, I have to concede that pod systems are very clean and probably more reliable than superautos. They are probably a good solution for offices, where people want a mediocre cup quickly in order to keep their employees at their desks. I guess that Im fortunate that my "office" has always had a La Marzocco or similar five steps away ;P)
To add a "nasty" edge to my post, Ive got to say that I find it pretty amusing that someone can log into a site called "coffeesnobs" and then be surprised that people have knee-jerk reactions to Nespresso! It would be interesting to actually cut one of the pods open and have a look at whats there; I remember someone telling me a while ago that Nespresso is instant. That might help to explain the price ...
In any case, whatever your point of view, I wish you a satisfying cup.
Luca
