  • Cold brew

    Hi all,

Ive been reading about cold brew coffee makers (specifically the Toddy: http://www.toddycafe.com/shop/product.php?productId=67) and Im curious to know if anyone here has had any experience with cold brewed coffee? Ive seen a couple of articles around the place touting the wonders of it, and I would really like to know if its as good as claimed.

The second question I have I guess would be does anyone know of any Australian distributors for cold brew systems (the Toddy, or anything else)?

    Re: Cold brew

You could try a search in CS using the term cold press. Javaphile is a big enthusiast of cold press coffee and has posted some long responses to the same question in the past.

    Cheers,

    Matt

I do it occasionally. Its great if you need a coffee flavour in a dish you are cooking but dont want the bitterness that a cooled down espresso has. Granita, jelly, custard, tiramisu, cold alcoholic cocktails...
Add some agar (or gelatine) to the CP solution and then foam it up with an cream whipper such as iSi.

One does need a good amount of coffee for cold press brewing.

      re: equipment
I just brew in a glass jar for 24 hours and then filter using a swissgold 1 cup drip filter (KF300). Bodum have a similar drip filter available.

Hhhhmmmmm......CP! How do I love thee, let me count the ways...!

Because the search results are limited on here use google or your favorite search engine to look for CP or "cold process" with the added command of site:coffeesnobs.com.au to limit your results to just this site.

                  Re: Cold brew

If not, maybe you could use a french press to start the process, then pass it through lots of filter paper?
