So I want to purchase a machine and grinder for home,

Where the heck do you start?

I do not care if it needs to be plumbed,

I do want great coffee and steam from home!

It will be left on all day as my wife is a tea drinker.

I can use a commercial machine and grinder adequately.

I am presuming i need to spend in the pointy to extreme end of price scale.

The flood gate is open and I really would appreciate your knowledgeable feedback.

    Thank you snobs.

If I were you, I would buy a 1 group Synesso Cyncra, and a Compac K10 8-) Fits nicely in the extereme catagory. (I actually dont know what the Synesso would be worth.)

Nah; Id get the LM GS/3. Cheaper and once the paddle group starts being manufactured again it will have better functionality than the Cyncra. Just be prepared to wait! ;P

              Cheers,

              Luca

                  Re: home help

This is the La Marzocco paddle group:

It allows you to set your brew pressure anywhere from mains pressure to full pressure. ie. 4 bar, 5 bar, 8bar ... whatever. The idea is that you can do stuff like ramping up to full pressure (or just whacking the paddle right over and letting the gicleur handle the pressure ramp up), then gradually lowering the pressure as the shot finishes, like with a spring lever machine. The Synesso group looks similar, but it is actually basically a three-position switch; you can have it off, at mains pressure or at full pressure. Like a plumbed-in e61.

                  Cheers,

                  Luca

                      Re: home help

And i didnt think anything could be better than Collingwood!

Damn but that looks fine Luca, ministry of finance is one thing but i reckon the sale of my m28 select and fully reconditioned spring lever Gaggia 2 group may put a dint in the cost...........I hope.

Its a long way from my stove top espresso that i still occasionally use, or my French press.

and even further from my trusty ibrik Turkish coffee maker which is put to use at least twice a week still.

Thanks for your advice so far, maybe there are some other machines that are great but not so pointy!!!

Wait huh wait .................... i need new toys now!

                      Craig.
