Thank you Graham. And, wow, the world is not that huge a place, is it?...Fredrikstad is only a three hours drive away, and, yes, sailing is really nice down there... .Ive never had the pleasure of visiting your corner of the world, but...well, yes...Norway is a peaceful an quiet place...Thanks for your help (so far), and rest asured...If I end up with the "eagle" and need any help with renovating it, Ill be sure to remember you ;-)...

    hi pavonidude
for that sort of dollar id jump at it
it looks in good external condition
and if the unit is still being used and it is making good coffee, yeah

machines that have been restored to original condition can pull big dollars if you can find some one to pay. the machine for 6 grand has probably been fully stripped, rebuilt and replated.
i have a 1957 and a 1965 Astoria lever, both need rebuilding. oneday

if you need parts from that side of the world i would contact Rancilio in Italy and ask who is there agent in norway / sweden or Denmark

lovely part of the world you live in, and yes fantastic tasting water
visited a few years ago, brother married a lady from Fredrikstad and moved over there. loves the sailing

The machine is autcioned away with bids starting at the equivalent of 300 US dollars. (Im in Norway, so the currency is Norwegian Kroner). I do not know too much about the history of the machine, other that that it is in good working order, and serves good espresso. The water quality is excellent, as it is..err..."norwegian mountain water"...there are no problems with hardness of the water, so the machine would probably not be troubled with...what u might call it...sediments (?)..I understand that my question is quite difficult to answer giving that I dont know if the machine is in serious trouble, or in perfect condition...It probably is somewhere in between...Condition OK... I found a 2 group z9 de eagle on the Internet, in perfect condition, being sold for US$6500....steep, I know...

what sort of dollars are being asked
how often has the machine been serviced
where is the machine located (what is the water quality)
what water filter has been used
can you see and test running

I am truly impressed by your knowledge. You, Sir, are a true connaiseur of the objets dart that are known as espresso machines....I am convinced ( ;-) ) that this is a Z9 DE Eagle. And as a 3 group Eagle, I recon its relatively rare... And that brings me back to just one, last question, and this is the ultimate one...the $10.000 one...Price...yes, price...what the blazers should I pay for it?....

here is alink to a Z9 being stripped down to refurbish. it is a Z9 DE yours is a Z9 DE Eagle. most pics are of two group machines, even though there were 1, 2, 3 and 4 group machines imported with a few 2 and 3 groups being eagles.

you can see that this is a later model by the Sirai pressure switch,(pic 52)in the earlier version they came out with a mercury switch for the element.
note the electronic box (pic 1 & 2) this has removable cards and the level adjustments are done by repositionig the spring clips or by dip switches.

    Gday Ray,

For really long URLs like the above, you can use a really handy little tool called "TinyURL". By way of example, the above can be reduced to this..... http://tinyurl.com/2kekql. TinyURL can be found here....http://tinyurl.com/

    Cheers,

Research is fun...I too found that page...but the machines pictured there are the Z11-series, and this is (presumably) the z9-series. Although similar, it looks as if the side panels are "sharper" and not plastic...and the front panel is different, along with the spill trays.... The best Ive found so far is a 2 group Z9 with dome:

    Nice, eh?...But the quest continues...

How true...the beauty of beauty (!) is that its truly in the eye of the beholder....however...keep in mind that this machine is aged 30+, and still not green ;-)...The machine sort of gives me the feeling of a lost era, something like Morricones masterwork "Once upon a time in America".......and yes, intriguing is the right word...I am, however, still interested to know what I should pay for this objet dart ;-)....anyone?....this treasure hunt has so far resulted in the knowledge that the machine is a Z9, and that the info on 3 group Z9s on the net is...err...absent.. Thrilling....But...again: anyone with more info? price?
