Re: Illy nude espresso / Terra Keramik cappuccino cups
I decided to celebrate the coincidence of"parity day" and the demise of my favourite cup with an order of some TK cups. Then my wife offered to buy me 6 for my birthday - I know I chose the right woman. (The fact that I ended up paying for them just shows shes smarter than me. ) Anyway for anyone else in love with these cups a set of 6 different coloured cappuccino cups cost about $53 each. The shipping was expensive - they came superbly packed but the amount of bubble wrap increased the volume a lot. I am not sure $53 is a rational amount of money to spend on a cup but when did rationality have much to do with coffee equipment?

Thats unfortunate Reto, but appreciate you taking the time to investigate.
For those who still wish to purchase Terra Keramik cups, I suggest you visit their website.

Re: Illy nude espresso / Terra Keramik cappuccino
We very much appreciate the interest in the Terra Keramik cups and the constructive feedback from everyone.
We would like to take this opportunity to respond to queries from Dennis and Luca.
First, the 15% discount would apply to both cappuccino and espresso cups.
Second, we do guarantee our products and as has been previously addressed on this board, where problems occurred we immediately replaced the products at no cost. Since launching our online marketplace in the United States and Canada in early 2007, we have sold more than 2,000 cups with zero reported problems (including in commercial use by professional baristi and cafes). Although our sales volume in Australia is nominal in comparison, we have experienced some issues with platinum wear that we suspect may be related to different water characteristics in Australia.
Third, the shipping cost to Australia is very expensive. The US Postal Service limits the size of packages and only ships air freight (no surface freight option available any more - this was cancelled within the past year). At the request of Dennis, we explored bulk shipping via US Postal Service (subcontracted to FedEx), which allows large packages but also only has an air freight option. We have recently used this shipping option to supply 3 cafes in Taiwan, but our inquiry with USPS indicates that shipping to Australia is 50% higher than to Taiwan. To make a long story short, the bulk shipping option appears to be no cheaper per cup than the standard USPS air freight option.
We are disappointed that there is not a more cost competitive option to ship to and service the Australian market. Given the concerns expressed over the past year in various threads by members of this board about the cost of our cups, and our inability to offer a competitive price to Australian customers, it does not make sense for us to continue discussing a bulk sale.

Hi Dennis,
No problem. I dont want to meddle in this or anything. Its your initiative, but I just happened to be in touch with Reto and some of this came up.
Cheers,
Luca

Re: Illy nude espresso / Terra Keramik cappuccino
Thanks Luca - I really appreciate your post.
I happened to email Reto myself last night asking for him to confirm an all up price and am awaiting a response. I would expect that freight from overseas will be quoted for a bulk delivery to one address. In light of that, Im happy to onforward these as required and cover the costs that may be involved for onforwarding this shipment.
In an earlier email, Reto confirmed that the 15% discount would also apply to the espresso cups. As for the durability of the platinum, I think Reto has previously addressed this and is prepared to back it with a guarantee.
Ill let everyone know regarding final costs as soon as I have some news.

Re: Illy nude espresso / Terra Keramik cappuccino
Hi Guys,
Please excuse the delay in getting back on this thread - I have been busy with assignments and ranting on other threads!
Dennis, you are indeed correct that my quote was not for air freight; it was for surface mail. Cups arent human kidneys - Im sure that well all live if it takes two months for them to get here ;P Im sure that we would all welcome Retos input in giving us a surface mail quote, as it might make these cups significantly more accessible. If those air freight quotes are the best that Reto can come up with, I would imagine that customs duty, GST (which you are right that I did not include) and postage would quickly bring the overall cost right up to the ballpark of ordering direct from Reto - an option that would save you a lot of work.
I recently received an email from Reto suggesting that he would be happy to include espresso cups in the 15% discount if everyone can get up to 30 total. I will invite Reto to post on this thread to (a) confirm that espresso cups are in on the deal, (b) give us an indication of what freight costs for that many cups are likely to come to and (c) comment on the durability of the platinum.
It might also be a good idea to move this thread over to the buy/sell forum and turn it into a sticky.
Cheers,
Luca
PS. Dennis, well done on finding any illy nudes around! Im surprised that they havent been gobbled up already.
