Can you resize the images in your post above please, theyre a bit large. Prefer that all images fit within a 640(W) x 480(H) maximum window as this seems to be the best compromise between detail resolution and the need to wear out the scroll wheel.
Looks like a bit of chatter as well. Not ideal and could have even been damaged if it has popped out of the chuck or the vice etc depending on the lathe or milling machine they were using.
For the record, have seen some awesome machined and re-chromed units in the US and Canada that with postage work out less than buying from a local vendor here - and they throw in a 21g basket !?!!
I feel a little dirty saying it (I prefer to buy local and support the local guys) but given I cant find a comperable item in Australia its looking pretty atractive :-(
Loos like theyre giving a refund. According to the gent I spoke to all the ones in stock dont have the problems I described and photographed. So either Im extremely unlucky and there was only one "roughy" or .....
Yeah I took to mine with a holesaw (exact size) and finished it off with wetndry. Took me all of 15mins. It can be done right with a holesaw, but I reckon its easier to stuff it up unless you know what youre doing.
You can always roll your own naked PF. All you need is a drill, file, wet and dry sandpaper to finish it off. 2-3 hours should do it nicely with these tools. If you are lucky and have a die grinder or Dremel then it should take less than that. I have seen a good thread on Home Barista. http://www.home-barista.com/forums/h...ter-t1437.html
Best option would be a mill but most of us dont have one in our sheds
Depends on how much you value your time and if you have a spare PF to start with as to if it is worth the effort.
As to the piece of junk at the top it looks like they used a hole saw and forgot to finish it off. Send it back, if they wont take it back name and shame here I think. [smiley=evil.gif]
If I was the recipient of this PF, the first thing Id be doing is to get back in touch with the vendor and explain that youre not happy with the quality of the product. If the vendor is a reputable one Im sure they would be only too happy to sort things out properly for you.
Yeah that one doesnt look liked it was machined on a lathe. It looks more like someone attacked it with a wholesaw. Trust me I know what it looks like . Yeah its not finished very well, but its nothing that a bit of wetndry wont solve. Itll make it plush in no time.
Coffeeparts have em, (I think youll find cheaper than you paid), and I know Di Bartolis have them, Im sure other sponsors have them too.
(sigh!) thats kind of what I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation. Bit disappointing but at least now I know why the Photo on their site was so small :-(
I wasnt really expecting to shell out $95.00 (including postage) for something this badly finished (and I certainly wasnt expecting to start bleeding profusely when unwrapping a portafilter from a commercial vendor website !!!! (the company in question is a sponsor of this site so Ill keep their name out of it for now till I see what they can do to resolve the situation).
Looked at Gregs site, seems hes only doing naked portafilters for the Sunbeam :-( (Saving for a tamper from him as we speak .... all in good time ....). Pity as looking at his products he does excellent work !
