    Very true Lovey [smiley=thumbsup.gif],

That is in fact what I have been doing while I finish restoring the Bezzera.... Nothing wrong with a Plunger so long as the beans are great and the grinder is up to the job. Its worth giving serious thought to this option SP and a great little grinder to kick things off with and be hard to beat is the Ibertal Challenge..... a superb little grinder for espresso due to its infinite adjustment system and a great interim grinder for Plunger use until the espresso machine hits the counter.

    Mal.

    Gday Tia,
another option out of left field which will give you great results is a plunger/french press.
Buy the best grinder you can afford and team it up with a plunger, a cheap popcorn popper and some green beans from this site and youll be making a fantastic brew.
The grinder is much more important than the espresso machine, so by buying a good grinder first, youll be able to match it to a machine if and when you decide to get an espresso machine down the track.

    Hey,
You could get the Solis SL-70 which is a pretty decent machine, Im using the Solis SL-70 right now and it has awesome steam power. You can get the Solis SL-70 from $374-$500. Then pair it with a Sunbeam EM0480 for RRP of $200 but can get bargin down to $165 but then that would still go over your the amount your looking at.
Someone else with more experience will add more machines to the list hopefully.
    Hope this helps
Yeah ... the solis seems to be good value for money, but remember that you need to add the cost of regular filter baskets to it, as it comes with pressurised baskets. The sunbeam burr set is very good, but I think that the iberital challenge is worth the extra money for stepless adjustment.

... then remember that there are extras that youll need ... knock box, tamper, steam pitchers, etc ...

Good espresso based coffee isnt cheap!

    Cheers,

    Luca

For that sort of money you wont get anything real good quality, but anythings better than Blend 43!

The cheapest you can get with a grinder built in is about $700 which is the Imat Mokita Combi, also sold as the Nemox Cafe Dell Opera through stores like David Jones (apparently), but dont know the price. For that sort of money youre getting something thats well built and should serve you well for years to come without having to pay over $1000 which is what youre up for for the next step up which is a Silvia / Rocky combination.

I reckon its the best bang for your buck, but if you dont have that money available then the sort of thing Coffee Kid suggested would do the trick, but the price doesnt come in much cheaper. Also being in one unit means one less thing on the bench and one less power point to find! Though it means you cant change the grinder later which could be a disadvantage (though Ive felt no need to change mine after four years)

I’m new too, but I think you need a “Burr Grinder” – from about $200 as there is no other way to get fresh coffee.
Then a manual expressio machine. My Sunbeam EM4800 works OK especially with the Krups filter basket.
