Dont know that paint code Buff but holden will be able to give it to you. for prep just make sure surface is very clean and very finely sanded to prevent seeing scratches under paint.

if you were going to get a panel shop to do it then they would do the prep work there.
    hope this helps

Thanks guys...I thought this thread was dead and buried !!
As I said in my original post, the Brasilia is newly powder coated (boring white) and the La Pavoni (model Bar T 2 ) has black plastic (??ABS???) side/back panels.
David, any advice/tips on preparation etc from those panel beaters would be really appreciated ...the colour I am looking at is this...http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=92699&page=3
    cheers,

Oooh, now youve got me thinking.

Maybe I should send my VBM black cover off to the panelbeaters when they paint my new red boot lid (for my less than 1 year old car... oops) and claim it on insurance! ;D

i would roughen up surface and clean with a prepsol before paint, undercoat probs would not be essential but would not hurt. car paint would be fine

    Re: Painting espresso machines

Veneziano uses the panel beaters next door to us to custom paint all machine bodies. There is no problem using automotive paints.

As for preparing the surface I can ask and get back to you.

automotive paints are formulated to handle very high temps.. well into the 100c from what I understand.

Thanks bf...I gather from your answer that there are no worries about heat affecting the paint ??

If it is actually ABS then Automotive paints are fine as modern car bumbers are ABS. From memory an etch primer first but talk to your local panel shop.

With the aluminium just watch using powdercoat as if it ever gets a chip or scratch then water can get under the skin and corrosion or rust can start.

    Painting espresso machines

    Gday folks,
I have 2 projects currently on the go... the restos of a 2 group Brasilia, and a 2 group La Pavoni.
The Brasilia was in bad shape and needed the frame and aluminium panels sand blasted and powder coated. The La Pav has the standard ABS plastic side panels.
I am looking at giving both machines a bit of a tart up with a fancy paint job...I understand that some new machines can be delivered to customers with a custom paint job, so am sure this can be done.
    My questions are :
    1. What preparation is needed before painting over ABS plastic
    2. Are there any considerations regarding heat resistance when deciding on paint types/techniques etc

Thanks to anyone who may be able to help in this area.

    Cheers,
    buff

Working...
