  • Kitchen Blender or Drink Mixer?

Id like to prepare cool milk crema and make coffee based drinks. The summer is coming in 2 months here in Spain.  :P

So, Im wondering whats the difference between a drink mixer...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u9tmOD7fLo

    ...and the typical kitchen blender:

Will the kitchen blender gives me the same smooth crema than the drink mixer?

The only thing I can see is the different type of blades on the blender compared to the disc in the drink mixer. I think the drink mixer is intended to aerate the drink more than the blades will in the blender....however the blender will do something similar with some practice and maybe slight adjustment to the recipe.
And Im surprised that the drink mixer was able to deal with those ice blocks in what appears to be relatively short time, I know blenders are often used for making cocktails, especially where ice is to be blended
    so go for it

      The difference is the blades.

The kitchen blender has spikey blades that chop things up and the drink mixer has a disc, usually with some scoops to introduce air into the liquid.
Some of them have an offset disc that sets the liquid spinning, some have both.

Youd have to try them both to answer your question about whether you will get the same result.

If you go the blender you can add ice and it will crush you cant crush ice in a drink mixer.

            Hola Oton

You will be better served with a stick hand mixer
They usually come with 3 blending blades/discs for any job

I have one of these blenders a Bamix brand

Ive had a Bamix for almost 30 years (same one).
The 3 blades in the picture above are:
              - One with the holes for adding extra air into the liquid being stirred.
              - the plain round one is the offset one I mentioned for general mixing.
              - The meat blade - it will chop ice as well as meat.

              Easier to clean too.

Re: Kitchen Blender or Drink Mixer?

Ive never had a drink mixer, but friends who do say they are only for drinks and wont do much else.

Ive had about 3 or 4 blenders and they work quite well, although they often dont aerate as much as the mixer.

My Bamix (now over 12 years old) gets (almost) daily use, aerates well, and as TG says--it is very easy to clean. It will do most of what a blender will do, and some different things as well.

Unless you by a proper drink mixer (commercial) they really arent good for much more than kids milkshakes.

In case anyone is wondering what finally I did or is looking for information.

I bought a blender... horrible results. No milk microfoam, only big bubbles. Too much air. Blender go back to the shop.  :-/

I bought a cheap drink mixer (50€) (a strange german brand which a dont remember)... Bad results, no microfoam, big bubbles like the blender.... go back to the shop.

This evening I bought a professional drink mixer. Ceado, an Italian brand. More expensive than the blender and the cheap mixer togheter... but boy, what an amazing result at the first try. Thick, smooth, velvety microfoam milk.  ;D

I will try to make a video to show you my results.
