  • Milk Jug & Tamper

Bought a coffee machine recently, an ascaso dream, pretty noob at buying equipment, was wondering what was a good Milk Jug & Tamper to get. Thanks in advance.

Dude - look left and scroll down a bit.

You will see you can email all sponsors re your subject, and they will be able to provide you with an amazing array of choices and great info on whats what.

We bought our tamper & stand from one of the sponsors (Di Bartoli) and could not have been happier with the service and expertise.

Lots of stuff n that is different and what suits me may not suit you. These people are pros.

Hope it helps on your journey.

A small one and one that fits

I use a normally use a 400ml jug but have a 600ml one for hot chocs and doing multiple doubles. Both were only cheapies and pour well and dont forget to grab a thermometer.

Tampers come in a whole range of prices and types and sizes. I used to have a Rattleware one that felt good in the hand and awaiting a Pullman which will be a lot more exe but more blingy 8-) Best thing to do if you can is try them for size in your hand rather than buy online.

Tamper tailored to the equipment, jugs are jugs (to a point). You want a tamper that fits your basket reasonably well plus feels good but fit is primary.

Well no, needs to be tailored to both.

Tamper obviously needs to fit the equipment.

Im kinda tall/big and tend to overtamp, hence the Espro. Funnily enough it was my wife who went to check it out at Di Bartoli, and first go struggled to make it click. Shes kinda small...

So we have the tamper that fits the equipment, and also fits the people that are using it for a uniform tamp at the grind level, helping to make quality shots for both regardless of how short she is... ;D

As they say on forums, YMMV...

              Re: Milk Jug & Tamper

For milk jugs you cant beat incasa for price and jug shape. The narrow spout is perfect for latte art and is the choice for many of Australias top latte artists and baristas in competition. You can pick a 600mL incasa (perfect for 2 coffees) or 350mL incasa (perfect for 1 coffee) up at Veneziano Coffee Melbourne or Veneziano Coffee Brisbane for around $15

In terms of tampers, I personally like the Coffeelab tamper, also available at Veneziano.

Look for a sponsor in Sydney - Di Bartoli, Jetblack Espresso, cuppacoffee to name a few in different locations.

A quick ogle tells me your machine carries a 58mm portafilter. You are in luck (maybe ) loads of choices.

We took one of our baskets (the smaller of the two) into Di Bartoli and checked the tamper against the basket. The experts said it was a good fit, happy days.

If it had not been, we would have been happy to buy another basket (they cost bugger all) that was a good fit.

I think you should be able to do the same if you wish.

Your other option would be Greg Pullman. Have a look at his site - listed on left as sponsor as all the info you need is explained there.
