    Re: Another Happy Pullmans customer

After a little discussion with Greg I arranged a special material Temper to go with the Brass Pavoni. I decided Stainless just didnt cut it for looks so I asked Greg to make me one out of Aluminium Bronze. Similar strength to mild Steel and far less Tarnish issues to Brass or Copper.

Supplied including custom fitting to my Basket is a little over 2 weeks (arrived today), made coffees for a party tonight and I will need to coarsen up the grind from the plastic crud I have been using Halogen lights dont really do it justice  8-)

Cost irrelevant but less than a Barrista and so worth it.

    thanks Greg 8-)

Mine is supposed to be amaranth
It looks quite red from your picture... That would be the perfect color I reckon, bright red.

      I got mine in Burgundy Red….. (I want more)….

        WOW... very cool custom engraving
Thanks, I wasnt sure if the camera on the phone would pick it up.

Mine looks exactly the same as the checkerboard one on the left in TGs photo.
I got that one from Dennis with a Synesso ridgeless basket. The checkerboard was my second choice originally just for the quality of the workmanship in the handle.

Maybe you can also get a Thundergod avatar embossed on the base of it so each of your shots has an impression
My shots already make an impression without one.

I am so glad you posted this.  I dont want stainless either for the same reason.  I was considering one with a brass base, but having to polish my brass Turkish mill every two to three days is making me at least explore a few options.

Is that the Jarrah handle or something else?  It looks like yours has the tamp guide rings, yet it also looks like it doesnt have them.  Which is it?  Any other handle options with a 51mm base, or just the wooden ones?

Questions best asked of Greg for special handles, but mine is Jarrah and bad photo but it has the Tamp Rings. As my Pavoni has wooden handles a wooden handle was a no brainer.

Just about to go and continue testing  8-)

Took some better shots this morning will post tonight.

Yes, me too. I was going for a "plain" handle but checkerboard was all Den had left at the time. Absolutely no regrets.

;D Sorry, I meant "puck" but if youre making winning shots then any by-product is worth puck-all.

Great photos everyone, its becoming  like a gallery. However photos dont really do these tampers any justice. These pieces have to be seen and touched in real life to appreciate how good they really are 8-)
Does anybody have these in the premium grade 316 s/steel ?

                  Re: Another Happy Pullmans customer

Precisely. I dont get the need for tapping anymore – the pullman just "goes" into the portafilter, no pushing required, I pull out, all coffee that was on the sides is pushed down, or pulled out of the basket entirely (ie. no side coffee), and then the final pressure is applied.

Basically, with the Pullman tamping just "happens". Effortless, its fantastic.

                        Re: Another Happy Pullmans customer

I just recieved a green aluminium handled barista model with 316 steel. I cant compare it to the other steel, but I figured if Im paying that much for a tamper in the first place... no point getting second best. Id be surprised if there is any real need for the high chrome steel to be honest.

What I can say is my coffee improved instantly. Really good extraction from a Silvia/Rocky with naked portafilter. Of course it could be partly due to the new synesso basket , but I suspect its the combo of good basket/tailor fitted tamper that makes the biggest difference. It resulted in a large improvement in my coffee, so for me it was worth the money.

                        Pete

My Pullman is about ten years old and still looks brand new. I bought it when I purchased my first Silvia at Alan Frews recommendation. It looks very much like a first generation model compared to some of the sexy new ones on his site, but it is an essential part of my espresso process.

Uh, YES! Well, not 10 years old (tampers dont go quite that far back), but getting close. And yes its definitely an early generation - you might like to post the serial number on your tamper just to prove how far back it goes!

Glad to read its still going strong too - we rarely hear back from customers any more than a hearty thanks after the initial purchase, let alone from those real grass roots days (which is probably a good thing as Im sure wed hear if there were problems); but its nice to read confirmation they dont break or rust or wear out or do anything else theyre designed not to do!

that is so true, i would love to see the pics from the early days to see how they are holding up and the design changes over the years.
                                thanks Azz
