hi all... I reaaly need help please...I want to ask this forum to inquire about how to work the coffee machine wega two groups 3700W, grinder, microwave in the van? Ive bought Daihatsu Grand Max van with tail gate, the plan I was eager to make coffee mobile become reality and will run like a dream of mine, but there is always a problem or not sure.. because I do not know how to make coffee equipment is working. I hope so maybe my friends who are here can give me advice that I need and my dream will start running my business oneday Roll Eyes. Ive been looking for some alternatives to the power inverter or generator is using? how does it work? thank you very much ... cheers Roll Eyes
In truth, immediately I didnt understand the essence. But after re-reading all at once became clear."

OK, back on topic. Two alternatives to a big fat generator are:
    1. Gas. Popular in NZ for similar setups, but not so popular here. Not sure why. I have heard of it being done here before.
    2. Deep cycle batteries. Costly, prone to failure. And youd likely have to compromise a lot on things such as fridge and wattage of your coffee machine.

You might want to phone up some places that specialise in caravans/camping type equipment and see what they suggest.

    Hi and welcome,

just my thoughts but you are better off getting some specialist advice from a generator supplier, the inverter option while possible and it certainly has been done is costly to set up. These guys were always good to deal with http://www.macfarlanegenerators.com.au/contact-us.php

Also where abouts do you live?

All depends on how much room you have and how much you want to spend, I would think this would be something you want to figure out fairly early on as your power source is one of the most expensive items of the whole setup.

Re: Power for Mobile Coffee Van

Hi Josh and welcome oh and we have been moved ,

try this thread for some more reading.

Also consider Gas Power for the Espresso machine depending on your setup. Lots of reasons why Inverters for 3-4kW are expensive and not maybe the best solution.

    Power for Mobile Coffee Van

    Hi all,

I am quite new to this site but have found it to be of great use to me as I am starting up a new coffee van.

I wont actually have any power at the site I will be operating from and was wondering what the best source of power would be? Should I get a generator or should I go with a battery set with an inverter?

Will have a small fridge. sandwich press and 2 group machine...

If anyone can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated...

    Josh

Only the aircooled motor under high load will run hotter. This tends to only be a problem with poorly serviced engines or older gensets where the motor is getting down on performance.

if it is a hot day this would affect the total peak output of a genset too would it not?

Piccy of it, when I rang them last week I had a bit of a chat to them about it. Not much info forthcoming from them but I could hack something together if I had to using some power electronics. My understanding of their system is that it priotises like I mentioned above. I did ask them for a copy of the operators manual for the MVU which they were going to send but still waiting

    BF,
who would you speak to about this load sharing if I wanted to explore it further? You said the mvu carts implement it? I wonder if my cart works cart already does a similar thing? Do you know of any way to test it?

    Re: Setting up coffee carts

My recommendation was not to use smaller in particular but more that there is a way to go smaller if you want. The best reason to go smaller is one of weight an extra 20kg of Gen set is a pain if you need to man handle it. Power sharing would see you back at 5kVa to do the job. $$ saving is wiped out by the extra bits needed to power share.

The thing that was important to point out is that you just cant total the Wattage from your appliences to get a total power required. You will also find that most 6.5kVa gen sets are actually rated to 5500W full load not that coffee making is full load.

I have seen more burnt out alternators in my former work life from Tradies and farmers using inductive loads (motors) than from any other single cause.

Sorry read that wrong, my point still stands regarding the capacity but like I said get advice. With the petrol generators take note of the service intervals (they are fairly close together) so depending on how much you are going to use it that will add to your running costs.
