  • Cleaning VV followiing milk contaminated water

    Hi All,

After returning from an enjoyable week away, I have discovered that my son has managed to get some milk into the watertank of our old Via Venezia. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until I had heated the machine and run some of the contaminated water through it - not a nice smell.

So far I have removed the tank and cleaned that out.

I am not sure if I should just flush the rest of the system with fresh water, or what else I shoud be doing.

    Any advice/thoughs would be appreciated.

    Regards

    MCB

What i would is the following

    1. Strangle son

    2. Run therough the cleaning cycle a couple times using de scaling potion and see if that works.

    3. return to strangling son.

Id definitely do the cleaning / descaling route. The Citric Acid powder you can buy from the supermarket does the job just fine, when made up as a solution. Id imagine if you put a litre or two through youd at the very least come very close to having it clean.

Educate / strangle son, or make him drink 3 litres of milk in one sitting to help him remember where the milk goes.

Alternatively let him drink a milk drink steamed on the vv- at work I had to clean out contaminated boiler on hx machine three times- first noticed that the milk was rank when steamed. Get onto it soon or it will grow. Alan Frew has a good article on this:

describes it as the colour, consistency and smell of baby poo!
