    Ahh, finally found the thread.
    I have just finished my own tamper.
    I hope you dont mind Greg, but I attempted to copy your deluxe base.

    Base is 316 Stainless, handle is brass. Joined with an M6 Stud.
    Weighs 575gm
    It took me 10 hours to make on a home metal lathe.
    Lapped the base to a perfectly flat surface, that took about 30 mins.
    Its the most precise thing I have ever made, so I love it.

    Good job mooey I used Mirowax, which is bees wax/eucalyptus/linseed blend. Had it for waxing dining table. No residual eucalyptus smell. Got it from furniture/timber work place.
