I want a Reg Barber burbinga knock box to match my tamper but cant find any Australian suppliers.
Probably have to order it from US. Its a lot for a box but it looks nice and I dont imagine ever having to buy another.
    Hi gbatterley,

Id think that any outlet which supplies Barber would be able to order one on your behalf. It may just need to wait until they (or an importer) next orders from the US. Bombora have one which is pretty much identical, but its in maple.

    Cheers

    Chris
Thanks for the advice Chris. Ill email the site sponsors and see if I get a bite.

If by "pretty much identical" you mean square and made of wood then yes.

No- what was meant was using exactly the same insert and likely manufactured by the same mob- but in a different wood :

Re: Looking for a new knock box

Chris, my point is that they are both wood and both hold a similar insert.

As well as the differing timbers used, the construction of the two are quite different, take a look at the joinery. Perhaps not an issue for many people but I think it is a stretch to say they are "pretty much identical".

When I pay a premium for a product its often the small details that make all the difference.

I am 99% sure ours wer joined in the same manner (when we last sold them) the detail wasnt quite as fine- thicker timber "fingers" but otherwise same same...

Anyway- as they say, whatever Horses for courses.

Fantastic - compact and very solid and best of all goes in the dishwasher to be cleaned.

Hmmm, not my opinion, I could forgive it for being a little small, large knock boxes in the home situation tend to get overlooked until they are full, by this time they have turned into a lush colony of fungus.
                Compact, yes.
                Solid, yes.
                Dishwasher proof, yes.
Design, must have been designed by someone who had not the faintest idea of what they were on about, the bar is positioned in the centre of the tube, after youve dumped about 4 pucks into it your faced with pucks more or less balancing on the bar supported by the pucks below, so you have to break em up by hand or give the box a few whacks on the bench to settle things.
If I had a little more space my Grindenstein would be gone in a flash.

Re: Looking for a new knock box

been using mine for 5 years now and never had a problem with its size - mind you I do empty it after I make coffee (wife hates the mess I make so that helps motivate me)

The reason I went for the Grindenstein was because of its compact size - it fits perfectly on my machine after use and therefore takes up no bench space. The small size forces me to empty it regularly so the wife stays happy....
If you were making >4 coffees at a time then this is not for you as you would be continually forced to empty it mid cycle.

I reckon the Concept one is way better in design and quality. Larger, easier to remove softer knock bar as well. It sells for about the same price.

Like the look of it Chris, similar footprint and a tad taller, easily removed bar would certainly help with washing, is the bar centered or offset toward the front?
