    I got one for Xmas and it is interesting to watch. You can see the water start to feed through the bottom of the filter basket and watch the pour develop. So far mine look pretty good with an even extraction and some nice striping, however towards the end of the pour a little squirt usually develops (really small!) off to one side that p*sses coffee all over the machine. Not sure why this is

    Thats correct. First and foremost, it is used as a training and diagnostic tool for correct dosing, distribution and tamping technique. A lot of information can be found on home-barista about the naked/bottomless/crotchless PF.

    And yes a perfect naked shot looks cool! =]

    there is absolutely no reason why or how it could damage your machine. as far as I can gather people like them cause they look cool, they give a better crema, and most importantly they can tell you alot about whether you are doing things right in your dosing/tamping technique.

    errr it doesnt do anything to your warranty unless youre chopping up the PF that came with it rather than getting one from say coffee parts

    Has anyone used one of these on the silvia - they guy I spoke to advised not to get this while the machine is under warranty. personally I cantg see what the problem is. So is it any good ?
