Portafilter disassembly?

Don't worry, it takes more force than the average person can muster to break a group handle or spout. I often have to use a 12" shifter to tighten spouts onto group handles, and find that the only way that is successful in the long term without coming loose is sheer brute force - often one full turn of the spout past the point at which you think it is tight enough, which requires a LOT of force! Loctite or thread tape just doesn't seem to last long term.

I changed spouts on my portafilter very recently with very little issue. I held the portafilter over a portable gas burner on full heat for a minute or so before gripping the spouts with something heatproof and turning. It moved with ease once it is hot enough to break down the thread locker. Just be extremely careful not to burn yourself!!!

If you do decide to try and 'straighten' them, be wary.
Of the 3 I have done, all had a very strong thread locker/sealant and required a lot of heat to break down the locker, and a good vice with protection for the spouts. It took so much torque, I was worried I was going to break the handle.

Ah, gotcha. They are probably correct then. Mine lock with the handle 90 degree to the machine, so maybe it's got a thickish rubber washer in

Generally PFs are a threaded fitting, often 3/8", the spouts will generally be offset (and to my eye yours look OK) because the PF should lock in at about 5:00-5:30, if you really want to you can unscrew them (which may be harder than it sounds) and with *careful* application of teflon tape you can get them to stop at a different position.Originally posted by bernmc View PostQuestion is, how are these things put together - I want to straighten things out. Portafilter disassembly?
Howdy y'all
The portafilters that came with my second-hand Bezzera machine are a bit odd - the spouts sit at strange angles. Pic below.
Question is, how are these things put together - I want to straighten things out. Is the spout just a press fit - ie a vice and some elbow grease to get it off and straighten?
