I was given the mentioned coffee catcher as a birthday present and I'm well impressed with it. As mentioned in my earlier reply the baristas at Nude espresso in Brick Lane London E1, are using it with every shot pulled which is what caught my eye. The reason I like it is because I use a Mazzer major and as every Mazzer owner knows that the ground coffee comes out of the doser heading west and this is where the CC comes into play. Take the full portafilter to the top of the chamber and level off, easy.
A great piece of kit (in my eyes)

I have been using the OE funnel for a month now and TBH I don't think a handle is necessary. The OE funnel is simple to use and that very small portion sitting inside the basket should not be any worry. I have kept my coffee wasted minimal to say the least.

Yelta, I think that it was a simple enough process to add into your routine and the savings could outweigh the slight inconvenience of doing an additional step. I felt it blended into my dosing routine pretty seamlessly.

When down at MICE this year, I picked up one of these for $55, as well as got to have a chat with and get good instruction from the designer of the product.

I have used it in a commercial environment as well as at home.

Along with Yelta's initial impressions I also think that it is a very nicely packaged and presented piece of equipment.

The Coffee Catcha in the commercial environment was impressive with that those who seem to waste a lot of coffee with their technique. This tidied that issue up very well and made wastage at least 90% less than it had been. Personally, I've not been a huge waster with my dosing and have always been pretty good so the Coffee Catcha cleaned my dosing right up. For those in the commercial environment, it can be added quickly to a portafilter for dosing as the catcha can be left on top of the grinders dosing chamber (if using one!) Those who had a chance to use it were impressed and thought it was a great tool to aide with their dosing and reduce wastage. If it meant that it would save you one dose a day, then on average you could potentially save 4kg* or more per year of coffee! Going on that, you'd pay for this piece of equipment fairly quickly.

In the home environment, I find it handy and certainly no overkill. You can also use it to sweep back into the doser on the grinder. So, it can serve two purposes quite well!

This device can be adjusted to fit any 58mm portafilter. By adjusted, I mean that you can move the handle so that the catcha will sit flat and flush on any portafilter.

So for the dollars, I think a useful tool that is nicely made and well presented that has the potential to be a dollar saver in a commercial environment that is still using doser grinders.

*calculated on a cafe dosing 14g into a portafilter, operating 6 days per week.
Interesting observations Scoota_Gal, I would have thought the CC would be a step commercial barista's would consider too fiddly, you learn every day.
The devices certainly make dosing a lot tidier in the home situation, but then I guess a cut down yoghurt container does as well.

Exactly the same as the Coffee Catcha, the OE funnel is the only one of the three that has a lip protruding into the basket.

I went another path. After having owned a couple of OE dosing funnels, I ended up getting two from Germany.

I must have just been unlucky. I got the order confirmation then weeks of nothing. I emailed them twice and no response either. They did obviously finally ship it and send me a shipping confirmation but that was it.

    Ditto.
Order Confirmation email received just after I ordered at 9:42AM on Sept 12 2012. Then an email to advise the order was shipped at about 6:10PM the same day.

The funnel itself is great. I barely lose a coffee ground now. Best but I've made just the service and communication was a huge letdown.

Normally, when ever I place an online order, I always get in touch with the seller if they don't have any response after a day or 2 just to confirm if order was received, and processed. This eliminate alot of confusion, and sometimes, things do happen and one would slip through the crack...

I do have an OE funnel (both the straight funnel, and the tube) and both are very handy to keep the grinder area clean... I particularly light the tube funnel which allows me to WDT vigorously when needed and not make a mess...
The coffee catcher looks really cool though, but I would think if I am using at home single dosing slowly, it would be an over kill

Nude Espresso just off Brick Lane in London is using one of these and also selling them at around £48. I don't think I could justify that sort of money for this piece of kit. I'd like it though.

Probably should have bought local but I couldn't justify the extra $$ for the catcher sadly

    Nice piece of kit though
I know what you mean, I agonized before buying the OE job, seemed a lot of money for what can be done with a empty plastic container.
Cant say it does the job any better than the yoghurt container, must say the yoghurt container looks a little rustic though.
