This new Cafelat PF is awesome!! :

    Portafilter - Cafelat

It is available directly from the US. Does anyone know where to buy this in Australia?

What do you all think of this one? Are there any better PFs than this?

    Thanks!

Quick question, does this PF only fit certain machines? I assume it wont work on the Breville DB BES900?

They look to be really well made. And what a great idea.

My only concern might be having a hard metal (stainless) repeatedly lock into a softer one (brass...like in most machines) could wear the softer one much quicker than brass to brass lock-in...but would probably take years for the difference in wear to manifest.

They have 3 different fit, LM/Synesso, Nuova Simonelli and E61. Not sure if Breville uses different PF.

Cool idea, but I'd still rather a naked and a double (partly because it gives me something to keep my blank in, which I use almost as often as I pull shots).

OK, I have confirmation from an owner that heat up time is comparable with brass PFs and that these are well built, solid and heavy.

I have been using one at the Snobbery for a little more than a month on the GS3 and can confirm you were right first time, it is awesome!!

Heat? As good as standard chrome plated brass (and chromium won't chip off exposing the raw brass and heavy metals)

Clean? Easy! Far less build-up and a quick wipe and it's spotless.

This is food-grade stainless group handle, chrome is good for motorbike parts, stainless 304 is good for food.

I also have the original LM stainless handle ($300 RRP!) and the Cafelat portafilter is better to dose and tamp as it has a square and level base.

We have a very limited number of E61 and LM versions that were expressed into the country and they are available in BeanBay now:

CoffeeSnobs - BeanBay - Cafelat Coffee Accessories - Cafelat Portafilter
...and I hear that site sponsors will be landing stock late next month, well in time for Christmas so you will have plenty of places to try them out.

I can confirm the E61 one works a treat in the ECA Giotto and that the LM one works in the GS3, GB5 and the Slayer.

Cafelat will be adding a whole lot of different lug profiles to suit most espresso machines and with any luck they all land before Christmas.

Looks very nice from the one that you showed me Andy.
I'll be keen to get one to fit my La Cimbali Junior.
Hope he's got one in the works for release soon.

All right. You talked me into it.
Turns out it's not that hard to talk me into coffee related purchases!

                          PF ordered. Thanks Andy!

Next thing is a good triple basket. VST triple vs precision triple..... or other. Any thoughts on the best one???

                            Quick update.

I have been using this PF for 5 months now and I am absolutley impressed.

The biggest ups for me are:

                            1. Fits a huge basket (mine is bigger than the VST and Precision triple baskets.
                            2. With the spouts on it sits dead flat for tamping. This has improved the consistency of my tamp.

The option to change this into a naked PF is just a bonus.

                            Thanks again to Andy.

Plenty, you just have to look :P

Personally, I greatly prefer my VST double to my precision double, but it took me a while before I had that "a-ha!" moment when it came to distributing; they are (I find) very sensitive and you may have to do things a bit differently to get consistent great extractions.
