Given that the link suggests that it could damage the pump, I think I'd give it a miss... voided warranty and all

Thanks... I think you're confirming what I've been thinking (which is why I probably chickened out in the first place). I'll probably leave good enough alone.

DISCLAIMER; 240VAC electricity can kill, and the danger is never to be under estimated.

The mod detailed in the link does not look too hard or complex provided a person attempting the mod is comfortable with working with mains electricity and or is suitably qualified.
Slowing the pump down a little may be useful but agree with the article that the adjustment will be quite limited due to vibe pumps being designed to work at a particular voltage level.
Should you grow a pair and attempt it?
You are probably the best person to make that decision.
I guess it all depends of your level of experience.
If in doubt, please ask a suitably experienced/qualified person to help you out.

    Cheers

started a topic I chickened out...

    I chickened out...

    ... from doing a mod.

Like many on this forum I'm perhaps a little coffee insane. Almost every piece of equipment I own is modified... I have a custom funnel and anti-static mod on the HG one grinder, I put Super Jolly burrs in the Mazzer Mini E, I painted the outside of my roaster drum flat black and put custom Kingwood knobs on as well as getting a car parts manufacturer to build me a bean loading funnel. The only thing I haven't modified is my espresso machine, an ECM Technika Profi IV.

I know there's lots of debate about pressure profiling on this forum, as well as every internet site that cares about espresso. After seeing some videos of the Slayer I've been really interested to try something that would allow for pressure profiling without having to pop down a five figure sum for the pleasure. The answer? See the following website:

Pressure Profiling on the Starbucks Barista | Sam Plett

So I bought a couple of dimmers, a crimper with a whole load of quick disconnects, some electrical wire... and then I chickened out. Does anyone else find this mod alluring at all? Should I grow a pair?

    Cheers,
    Terence
