thanks okitoki, removed the showerscreen using a small spoon, easier than i would've expected.

no signs of old grinds anywhere, looks as good as new, must be something else. it hasn't affected the quality of my extractions as of yet, so i'll KIV and hope it isn't a big issue.

did a quick search and found the manual for your machine... refer to page 16 for the instruction on how to remove the shower screen... otherwise, have a look on Youtube... there are a few instructional video on how to remove the shower screen and gasket...

What machine do you have? most shower screens are fairly easy to get to and take off for cleaning...

When I picked up my Giotto, the previous owner told me that he regularly back flushed the machine after each day of use, but when I took it off, it had a good amount of coffee buildup on the inside the shower screen... after a soak in the coffee cleaner, it was nice and cleaned again...

should you damage your shower screen, it is not an expensive part to replace either... mine is < $20, and previously the Silvia's screen was < $15 at my local store...

Just wondering if you had taken the shower screen off and clean before?

    Unfounded backflushing issues?

    Hey all,

I'm a big advocator of backflushing after each extraction, or extraction(s) if I have guests over. So I've grown accustomed to seeing a pool of water (normally with traces of grinds) filling roughly half of my blank disc after a 5-10sec wait for the brew pressure to build before I cut the lever. I normally rinse and repeat until there are little to no traces of grinds left in this pool of water before I'm contented with the cleanliness of the showerhead.

So until yesterday morning, I've noticed after my backflush routine that the pool of water in my blank disc has now been reduced to a puddle, and I could barely even tell if there are grinds in the water because there's siginificantly less of it now. Nothing else has changed, the water exits the drain chamber with the same amount of pressure as before. The waterflow from the showerhead seems consistent as well, but since I've never actually measured the water output I can't say for sure. My brew pressure still reads 9.25 bar and nothing seems amiss with my pressurestat either.

Perhaps there's nothing wrong with my machine; or perhaps this could be early symptoms of a possible pressure issue? I'm pedantic about the little details when it comes to coffee brewing (I bet most cs'ers here can sympathise), and when something strays from the norm, I tend to question it. Is this an unfounded fear? Or am I right in worrying that there might be something amiss?

Thanks for any help rendered in advance
Working...
