  • Another tamper that looks interesting or is it?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnVs_eJuerY The great leveller!

I know what your saying. "Not another gimmicky tamper" or "another tamper for people still on training wheels". These ad nauseum comments often appeared after posts on the pressure click tampers (espro or eazytamp) but I actually use one of these and like it.

Anyway I came across one of these levelling tampers on the web and they seem like a good idea for people struggling with a doing a level tamp. Has any one used one and what do they think? They maybe a training device but I still like the concept.

    G'day Barri...

There have been a couple of attempts at making Tampers with this sort of design over the years. Can't remember what they were called but as with everything, pros and cons were discussed ad nauseam...

How much do you think it would cost to get one delivered to the States?

          Now you tell me Chris!

I just ordered one on an impulse buy. I just can't help myself. I'll report back when I've had a play.

I thought that was a joke as in "hurry up and buy it, try it, decide it's a gimmick and makes no difference, and then put it on eBay ."

                  Cheers Dean.

Ok- we have added it to range on backorder. I'll make a first order on Saturday 16/8 for anyone who wants one and thereafter keep a few in stock. We'll receive and then ship them in about a week.

It arrived this morning and I've had a good chance to play with it. The packaging was pretty poor. A small white box with no instructions. Admittedly it doesn't need instructions and I guess that would put the price up. Anyway the concept is that the wide part sits on the rim of your basket and pushing down gives a perfectly level tamp. It does this well. Setting it up was a bit fiddly. You have to adjust it so that the final tamped puck gives the same headroom from your basket as your old tamp did. I found that I couldn't control my tamp pressure as well as my "normal" tamper. So I ended up adjusting it to give a longer stroke. That way the handle didn't go all the way down (like the video) but I was able control things better. Does it give a level tamp? Absolutely. Is it the next best thing to sliced bread? No. Would I buy it again? Maybe. Has it helped? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes to those struggling to get an even level tamp but no to others. Will I use it all the time now? Maybe, but I reckon I'll eventually go back to my old click tamper which has lines on it to help with levelling.

Its not junk NuBEnFL. In fact I'm actually getting used to it. Its growing on me. I was a little sloppy in getting level tamps before but with this thing you can't help but to get a level tamp. It removes another variable.
