It's been a couple of week's getting to grip's with the new gear and i am quite surprised how a slight adjustment in grind changes the flavour of a shot Thank's again for the advice from members now the only problem is that the obsession for the perfect shot has taken hold and have already purchased a second hand breadmaker and bosch heat gun!!!!! Where will it end!!!! Having a great time learning.

Order arrived yesterday arvo M4d grinder and VBM Domobar Junior decided to go with the VBM machine.
Waited till this morning to try the machines it's going to take a while to get my head around adjusting the grinder but pulled a couple of shots with success.
My thank's to Chris from Talk Coffee and for advice given by members.

Agree with the grinder as a first huge step. For $500-$1000 you can get an awesome grinder, and the Macap range are great (I had an M4 - and the M4D sounds even better!) and if this doesn't completely transform your brews from the little Gaggia, then nothing will. You'll find a new machine a smaller step up in flavour after the huge leap with a good quality grinder
Happy hunting!
Cheers Matt

Can defiantly vouch for the Macap M4D (recently upgraded to it). It meets all my needs, fantastic, fast, easy to use and program. Most of all produces an awesome grind paired with my Bezzera Magica.
Would be fair to say that you might later down the track upgrade your machine again, but won't have to upgrade the M4D (if you enjoy mostly milk based coffee's)
Perhaps be a consideration that JojoS and Dimal have mentioned, upgrading the grinder first. You'll certainly not be disappointed with a high quality grinder like the Macap M4D. May better define your Gaggia Classic.

In that case mate, I'd recommend having a close look at the range of machines offered by Lelit. Several of our Site Sponsors stock them but I'm unsure as to whether you can test drive one in Tassie somewhere. As a guide to what's available, check out JetBlack Espresso's line-up here...Originally posted by sjh View PostI'm thinking a manual machine single brass boiler nothing fancy something i can use to make a consistent cup of coffee and not have to replace after a couple of years.
Lelit Coffee Machines
Also agree with JojoS, a better grinder will definitely make a difference and if you can afford to step up to something like a Macap MD4, it would see you through several iterations of espresso machine upgrades over the years...

Hope some of this is helpful...

The Gaggia Classic might surprise you when paired with a grinder with better quality than with what you have now. I will never suggest moving up to a coffee machine in the $2.5K range and pairing it with the Gaggia MDF.Last edited by JojoS; 31 January 2015, 01:01 PM.

Let's start with the grinder that you have paired with the Gaggia Classic. Do you plan to upgrade that as well?

Welcome Steve...
What would be your personal specification for an espresso machine mate? Will help us to help you narrow down the choices somewhat...

Hi I am after some choices for a new machine after searching the web have found too many choices. The Gaggia Classic has served me well and am not sure which machine to replace it with.My wife and i drink mainly long blacks and would prefer an Italian made machine, willing to spend $2500 but which machine!!!! Any advice would be much appreciated.
