    7 - just prior to blonding...fantastic pics!

I bought myself a naked today from DiBartoli and just tried it out...loved seeing the coffee come through those pinholes like vegemite through a vitawheat, then slowly coming together to form a central stream...what wonderful theatre!
Booking a front row seat at Dennis home theatre next Saturday night. Hope the extraction carries an AO or PG rating.

On another note, yes, mine eyes have been opened.  Or, Microsoft opened something for I now join the legions whove seen the mighty fine pictures ahead of me.

I think saying stop at number X is too simplistic. The time and volume also have to be considered. For instance, if  picture number X is only 10 seconds into the pour, there is something fundamentally wrong  and other adjustments may have to be made, such as temperature or dose.

If on the other hand,  blonding is happening close to the desired 60 ml/30 seconds mark, then all is right with the variables.

Maybe one notch finer would lengthen the pour tom about 30 seconds for the 60ml.
Thats a bit hard with a stepless grinder!
But yes, I agree that Id be aiming to slow the shot timing down to the "golden rule" for starters and then adjust to get 6-7 happening in the 25-30sec region.

One thing to note with naked PFs is that the volume is a bit less than with a spouted PF since less CO2 is lost from the shot so a slightly larger shot is needed to get the same extraction with a naked PF. This is the main reason that a naked shot tastes different to a normal shot - the smaller liquid volume means it is tending towards ristretto. The other reason is that the visibility (and resulting mess if channelling develops) means that naked shots tend to be better executed (tamp/distribution) than normal shots.

Hmm, 5-7 depending on mood. 5 if Ive got the time to prep properly, relax and enjoy; towards 7 if the report has to be out by the end of the day, Ive got 3 hours to do 6 hours worth of work and I dont have time to muck around with precise-eties.

Ive now got that dangerous: its 12:30 and Id really like a coffee feeling...

Is this a case of "Harvey" the invisible rabbit? All I see is a series of numbers, no photos. Yet everyone seems to have responded to them.

Nothing on the browser saying anything has been blocked, either.
    Hmmmm.

    Id stop anywhere between 5-7.
Definitely want to catch it before 8.

    thanks for comments all.

Pity I didnt get the timings - will definitely do so for the next one! But I remember that it was too quick all up. I think the last shot (9) was around the 15sec mark with about 45-50mls poured. I did let it run through and have 2 more shots of more marked blonding. It ended up around 20sec for 60mls. Beans were Campos Superior about 4 days post-roast.

Ive been experimenting with WDT and its been significantly better! Anyway, will do another shoot after the weekend! Busy weekend with a wedding shoot all day tomorrow (Im amateur) and birthday party and church on Sunday. Sounds like a detox (?!?!?) weekend and then back into the black stuff on Monday!

I would say 7 just before that point would be good but its hard to anticipate blonding untill the first signs. as you can see the stream in 7 is thinner then in photo 6, it is also closer to the bottom of the basket. Photo 8 is blond. the color has changed, the steam is opaque, and is right up against the bottom of the basket. 8-) the pour looked good though.

Depends on volume as the Naked pours a double. I would be stopping at 4, at the outside 5. As soon as the colour changes from rusty red brown I stop. Hence my affection for the DNR latte. Double Naked Restretto. Since we cant see the volume and all things being optimal, roast freshness grind and tamp, dont wait for the streaks to start. Get your 25-30 mls of gold and go.

Just out of interest, was the shot in the photo used to make a coffee? Or was it just run through to get the pics?

What a great set of shots!

I would say around the 7 mark.
Do you have timings to go with each shot?
