Could anyone tell me what this may be compatible with?
Or is there somewhere I could see measurements of other portafilters? Anyone feel like measuring and posting findings?
There's 2 basic types of portafilter - the E61 style with lugs either side, that fits a variety of machines with E61 heads, Marzoccos, Wegas and others.
Then there's the offset lug type, where one lug sits closer to the handle and one further away, which are common on CMA manufactured machines other than Wegas (although just to be confusing, some Wegas do use this handle type!)
But even with there being 2 basic types, there are many variations, with different heights from lug up to basket lip, different outside diameter of portafilter head even amongst handles using 'standard' diameter baskets meaning some handles jam or won't fit in a different head, some makes such as Bezzera, Boema, Elektra which use much smaller diameter handles/baskets/group seals (and even some Astoria models that are available in either small or 'standard' diameter groups!) and a few oddities that use 3 lugs, plus even wierder stuff like the old Rancilio oversize groups used for catering quantities - similar to a normal group but almost 5" diameter with a 3 lug portafilter to match!
So yes, in a lot of cases portafilters can be swapped, but often they can only with some adaptations (like swapping to different thickness seals) and just as often can't be swapped or adapted at all.
Oh, and a Rancilio portafilter may fit a current Boema (which now use E61 heads) but wouldn't fit an older one at all.
For example, if you had a boema machine, but really liked a rancilio naked portafilter, would it fit perfectly?
I tried the Rancilio bottomless portafilter in my Vibiemme. It only just engages the lugs and stops at about 1/8 of a turn short of the normal 6 o'clock position. This is using the same amount of strength as with the Vibiemme portafilter (which stops at 6 o'clock) on a Silicone grouphead gasket.
I'd caution you Hunty to be a touch more careful.
I know of at least 6 commercial OEM P/Handle designs where dimensions do vary.
And I'm not talking about where the handle sits once locked away.
Also the depth of the handle(s) Bowl vary so basket depth also needs to be checked.
The most commonly missed is the dimension for the lugs Ramp ( Pressure Point) up to the Sealing Lip that the basket sits on.
Causing failure to properly seal during the shot, OR prematurely wear the GH itself.
A lot of the handles from Prosumer E61 GH cross fit ..
Apart from VBM / Rocket, Isomac / Rocket, Expobar & Wega / Rocket,
I was wondering if portafilters are compatible between different manufacturers for commercial machines. Are most group heads e-61 and therefore all the same?

I think so Hunty but I'm not 100% sure about them all being the same.
I have a VBM portafilter that I use on my Rocket.
I'm sure others will chime in to confirm.
