No don’t get a standard 58mm tamper, get a 58.3mm one. I’d suggest the precision ones that Jetblack Espresso stock or a Barista Hustle tamper. Both of these options are just over your $50 mark and will do the job nicely. I think Jetblack stock both flat and convex models. Don’t stress too much about the shape, getting one with at least a 58.2mm diametre is the most important thing, but people that are new to espresso often find the convex shape a bit more forgiving.

Thank you all for your replies will check out the stores mentioned in ACT and then look at CoffeeParts as well.
    You’ll need a 58mm tamper.

Find one of these with a handle you like the feel of and one that looks good.

Tampers tend to be one of the more ‘personal choicr’ Items and I’d suggest getting along to a shop to feel a few in the hand.

Coffee Parts offer a good selection here https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/accessories/by-category/tampers

Good people to deal with, they offer quite a range, some quite reasonably priced.

Cosmorex in Fyshwick. If it is closer, have a look in Tutto Continental in Mawson. They have some coffee stuff, possibly including tampers, and are otherwise a deli worth discovering.

Which Tamper for my New Setup?

    Hello all,

I am a new member and recently I have bought a second hand Rancillo Silvia V3(non-PID) & a Macap M2M.

Havent pulled a shot yet, as I am waiting on the HQ filter basket 58mm Basket 14g-18g that I ordered via TalkCoffee.

Having already spent a fair chunk of money, wanted to check if some experts here can suggest any Tampers for my setup between $50 to $100 (lesser the better). Also any suggestions on stores that I can visit in ACT for the tampers? If the store option does not work, happy to buy online.

Thank you in advance. Looking forward to this experience.
