If anyone is interested there's a set of Brewista 2 scales on fleabay (273663488250) at the moment for $35 including postage from Doncaster VIC (to me in Sydney at least). Used in a Melbourne cafe. I bought an identical one from the same seller a few days ago for a friend and it was fully functional but with some marking from cafe use.

I did try something close to that, but the retention weight in my grinder is not consistent - it is give or take more than a gram - so could be out on that last bean! I find the timer on the grinder is best set to say about 11 grams and it will give +- 0.4 grams, depending on the state of the beans. If I want a 12 gram dose I just “blip” the grinder a couple of times and give the delivery cone on the Quamar a bump. I can get to within 0.2 grams on my cheapie scale without too much fiddling.

I know this was directed at steve7, but I would consider this if I was the ONLY user of the grinder. Wife and son prefer to find a few beans already in the hopper...
I'm not going to try to change their practice if they are happy enough with their own results
They won't be bothering with scales and dosing cup either

Have you tried single dosing beans into the grinder? Weigh whole beans into the cup and then dose into the grinder. If you have any sort of consistency in retention, you may be able to adjust for this in the bean weight to achieve the desired grind weight. Having used the TiAmo for a few weeks I'm pretty sold on the grinding into cup concept now (see above). Much less messy and no clumping. I have some cheap eBay 500g scales for bean weights. It is 0.01g resolution. Easily measures 1 bean weight. Portafilter blows out the 500g limit though, and it's too small to fit a portafilter on.
But I use it to pre pack my beans into single dose sized ziplocks. Then repack back into the suppliers bean bag and freeze the lot.
If going to work for 4 days, grab 4 ziplocks. If home and ready for espresso, grab 1 baggie.
Works well for me, though the initial weighing and bagging is a bit painful for 1kg of beans.

A Portafilter stand for use on small scales. Shouldn't be too hard to knock one up yourself though. There's some plastic copies floating around also. An enterprising individual could probably use chromed bent rod to achieve a similar shape by following the shape of the edges.

So I bought the Brewista scale, and also the Tiamo dosing cup. It has been a game changer. I hadn’t realised just how far out my ‘estimates’ were from reality. Coffee experience has soared, its been the cheapest upgrade to my coffee ever...
Having said that I have ordered a $15 eBay scale as a back up/second unit (for beach coffee). I won’t be sitting this on my drip tray during the extraction like the Brewista, but I can weigh the cup afterwards. I haven’t seen an alternative to the Tiamo surprisingly so may have to get another. Unless anyone has any DIY hacks involving yoghurt pots etc...

I put the Tiamo cup on the scale and tare (zero) it. I then grind into that cup. I have a Quamar Q50 with a timer and it can generally get within a gram of what I want.
So I grind into the dosing cup; check the net weight and then give a couple of little bursts to bring it to my desired weight if needed - usually within about 0.2 gram after practice.
I haven't tried sitting it on the scale under the grinder - for two reasons:
1. There is a stainless steel "prong" for the portafilter to sit on, so the vibration would probably make the scales and cup fall and I suspect the vibration would throw off the weighing.
2. I have no quick way of stopping the grinder when the desired weight is reached, without also compromising the weighing process - plus grinds will still come out for a while after the machine stops, so you have to anticipate.
Your set-up might be different, but the zero/weigh process works for me.

An alternative - I bought one of the Tiamo stainless steel dosing cups. I grind into that - it sits nicely on my small eBay scale (about 115gms - tare it out) and allows me to stir the grounds to get rid of clumps and I’d like to think the metal cup reduces static electricity.
The cups fits the top of my baskets perfectly so I can upend the grounds into the basket without spilling any - no spillage in grinding process either.
I then use the small scale to measure the shot going into the cup - scales and cup easily fit under the installed portafilter.
