  • Bottomless portafilter with IMS Competition 22g basket

I’m looking for an oversized bottomless portafilter for an E61 group, specifically one with enough height (depth?) that an IMS Competition 22g ridgeless basket will be fully contained and not hang out the bottom.

The basket is 28.5mm tall. I own an Edesia brand portafilter right now, and it’s too shallow. As a result the portafilter isn’t stable when I tamp (the bottom of the basket is slightly convex).

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Rocket bottomless portafilter looks in pictures to be a bit taller than my Edesia. I can’t find any websites that list it’s height, but if anyone owns one and would measure for me, I’ll be ever grateful!

try this one from a site sponsor

ask and they may measure it to see if the basket fits?

I have a genuine Rocket bottomless and just measured 32mm from top to bottom at centre. The 20gram VST I use has at least 5mm of clearance.

If you're only concerned about the ease of tamping, a tamping station that supports the portafilter by the ears rather than the base could work. Check out the pictures in this thread, or ECM make a stainless one.
