  • Wtd: Tamper

    Hi all
Im hoping to get something a bit better than the plastic tamper that came with my machine we got recently. Its a cafe roma (please dont laugh, its the best we could do with our crappy budget) I think its about 50mm & havent been able to find one thats small enough. I just missed out on one on ebay so thought someone here might have one the right size left over from an upgrade or might know somewhere to find one.
    Thanks heaps for any help.

    Hey Oz,

If youre in Melbourne, come in to Veneziano Coffee, we sell 51mm generic stainless steel tampers. Bring in you basket to make sure it fits.

    David.

I bought a 53mm Incasa brand but it was a bit to large to fit the CR basket so I filed it down to suit, maybe take your basket with you when purchasing.

im sure if you took your basket into either Di bartoli (Bondi Junction) or Coffeeparts (pagewood) theyll help you pick one. Of course, if the budget allows you can always have a custom one machined by Pullman tampers. I had one made to go with my old Sunbeam and it was great.

Although, it meant the tamper was worth about the same as the machine in the end!

I think its 52mm in diameter and I think Ive seen some generic tamper at Victoria Basement or similar houseware shop for around $15

Wushoes is closer to the mark although they do vary a little as usual. Weve got measurements on file from several tampers weve made to fit Brevilles, including the Cafe Roma, and 52mm will definitely be too big.

I think your right Greg. I cut a piece of cardboard to 50mm & it fit inside nicely...but it got all soggy when I tried to tamp with it...lol...kidding.
