I agree FC that having the ability to and doing it are two different things.

Ive tried it to see if I can do it, but as you say, I generally dont.

The main thing for me is that becuse its possible, I have zero wait time when I need to make more than 2 milk coffees at a time.

    Hi there,

Trust me, the "can it pour coffee and steam milk at the same time" scenario is overrated. Its the kind of thing you need to do in a busy cafe but not necessarily at home where you are usually not in that much of a hurry, in fact at home, is where you like to spend as much time as you like making sure its all done right. It doesnt matter if the coffee sits for a short time while you texture your milk carefully (and without worrying whether while you are texturing, that you might be over extracting over pouring the black stuff because youre concentrating on the milk instead)!

That doesnt mean you shouldnt if you can, its just that I will make a grossly generalised statement here and say that most people that have machines at home that can do this, probably dont.

Its the kind of thing people want on, and tick off their lists when selecting a machine, but whether they actually ever really do this after the purchase is another story.

I realise some will jump in here and disagree with the above and thats ok, but someone has to first mention that to steam and brew at the same time is not some kind of cappuccino making nirvana to aspire to in general, its just a spin off from commercial use equipment. If you want to you can........no one is saying you shouldnt.

Someone above mentioned the Gaggia Baby Dose as a possible......sorry, its the aptly named Gaggia Baby "Twin" but I dont know if it does actually steam and brew coffee at the same time, or whether it simply offers a much quicker way of going from coffee to steam and back without the extra steps required in a domestic machine with only the one boiler.

    Regardz
    FC.

PS I have one of my own import signature spec Diadema Junior Plus semi commercial machines at home that can steam, pour coffee and blow boiling water all at the same time and.......I dont. I like to make the coffee, stop it, and go directly to texture the milk carefully without fear of over pouring the espresso portion. How many coffees do I mostly make at home? Only enough for myself and wife so at best, a pair of coffees, followed by another pair 5 or 10 minutes later. No "pressure" (pardon the pun) to brew and steam at the same time in that scenario.

Why dont you try it? The worst that will happen is that youll get water out of your steamer instead of steam.

Ascaso Steel Duo can do what you want. Boiler and Thermoblock and 2 pumps - so you can brew and steam at the same time.
    Excellent quality machine

Not 100% sure here but I think the Gaggia Baby Dose also uses a Thermoblock steamer and boiler for the brew water.
I dont know if you can brew and steam at the same time though, as I think it still has only the one pump.

Can anyone with this machine jump in and let us know what happens if you push "steam" while brewing?

The EM6910 is competent at doing both with dual thermoblocks. Surprising ability actually.

Currently using my gaggia classic at the moment and I have to pull a shot and let it sit while the steam pressure builds?

What models out there allow you to texturize your milk and pull a shot at the same time.
    Hi Alucard,

You need a HX (heat exchanger) or dual boiler machine.

All of our range except the Silvia and VBM Levetta can pull shots whilst texturing milk.

Please feel free to call if I can assist.

    Chris
