I was thinking the seal might need to "bed in" but thats a moot point now as this morning it wouldnt steam.
Sounds like (no sound actually) the pump has died.
Im packing it up tomorrow to send to Sunbeam.
The nice girl Ive been speaking to has managed to get permission to fix both problems under warranty, even though I have no receipt and theres a real good chance its over 12 months old.
Ive unearthed my old Bodum plunger to take to work until its return.
My 6910 came with the blue gasket. For the first few pours, it leaked quite badly and the p/f handle didnt go past perpendicular. With a bit (well, a lot ) of use, the p/f now locks in about 30-40* past perpendicular with no leaking.
So I think it does take a while to bed in properly. Not sure whether mine has a spacer under the gasket though.
Alternatively, if Marc is right they might upgrade you to a 6910 if its still under warranty! If its not, you might be able to successfully argue that their wrong instructions led to the damage, and they should repair/replace. Worth a shot!
Sounds like the TB has come away from the group. Sunbeam has a fix but not sure if theyll honour it considering its the older model. Give them a call and tell them whats happened.
I changed to old grey gasket this morning for a new blue one.
It leaked like a sieve.
Luckily Sunbeam had included a spacer but the instructions didnt include its installation.
Seems they are very new.
After a few phone calls I finally confirmed that the help line operators were all wrong and the spacer goes on FIRST!
It looked promising at first when the handle locked in about dead centre instead of all the way to the right.
The pour started well for a the first few seconds but then the seal started to leak.
The handle locks in a bit further around now after several more trial runs.
Its like the seal is moving up and bedding in.
Unfortunately its still leaking.
I backed of a notch on the grinder before the first shot just to play safe.
