  • Steam tips for EM6910

Can you get any other steam tips that would fit the EM6910. I would like to upgrade to a 2 or 4 hole tip?

    Hi Goodies....

    I doubt it!

But even if you could - texturing milk is all about steam volume (rate of heating the milk) and steam velocity (which causes the air to be sucked in and the milk to be combined with the air....)

Only a large prosumer or a commercial can really supply the volume of steam at an appropriate pressure to drive a 4 hole tip.... and it really takes a prosumer class machine or better to provide enough steam to drive a two hole.....

If the steam escapes too quickly (too many holes) the velocity will drop (unless you have a large BOILER behind replacing the steam....) and when the velocity drops all you will get eventually is walm flat milk .

The only option (with the volume of steam the Sunbeam can produce) would be to have very small holes to keep the velocity of the steam up..... and that wouldnt be very effective.... and probably take a lot longer. Smaller holes = more resistance to the passage of steam = less steam in total and slower heating.

Sunbeam designed it for a single hole tip as a match to the steam volume it can produce..... and that is the best tip to use.

I know a while ago Sunbeam were working on a new tip so you may want to keep your eye out for when thats released; but as the other guys said itll need more steam power to be able to drive it, so maybe the tip will coincide with something else... :-X

As youd know I wasnt overly impressed with the steam on the 6910 with the single hole tip so I wouldnt like to try it with a 2 or 4!

Greg - speaking of new tips for 6910 - i know it was discussed about the difficulty of cleaning the existing one.... Has anyone heard of any updates of this topic?
Does anyone actually know why most steam tips are quite large in comparison to the wand? ie itd be a lot easier for cleaning if there was no tip at all , and the wand just ended and the hole was drilled into the end.... any thoughts?

              gaggiaboy,

The Solis SL90 I had (some time ago) used a straight wand with a hole in the end of the actual wand rather than a tip - and it was a PITA to clean.

At least with a screw on tip you can remove the tip and then remove the built up milk within the steam hole or holes.... some of which migrates inside a little.... and with the tip off you can clean it properly.

But poking something into the end of a one piece wand/tip is far harder to do - and less likely to clean it thoroughly.
