But Im trying to avoid having to buy the arm and joint which is probably about $150 or so from memory.
Gday Oz ,
According to the CoffeeParts catalogue I dont think you will be set back that amount of money, unless you need to change the whole valve/wand assembly. Check this out....http://coffeeparts.com/fae/fae13.html
To attenuate the flow on our four hole tip (when we use milk, which is hardly
ever these days, its usually a small amount), my wife made up a couple of
"cotter pins" out of fine stainless steel wire (as used by orthodontists) and stuck
them in two of the holes. Easily removed for bigger amounts, clean by
soaking in water with a little detergent.
Thanks Attilio - appreciate the assistance. Do you supply the smaller and 2 holed tip? If so could you please PM with a price including freight to Brisbane and any lag time.
as far as I am aware this machine is in home use rather than in cafe use?
If so you are on the right track. I would either downsize the size of the holes in your existing tips by up to half their size, or as you say go to a 2 hole tip. If the holes in the 2 hole tip are large however, you may also need to down size them. It may be trial and error getting it the way it suits best, but thats half the fun of it.
This is because for the mostly small quantities of milk you are texturing in small volume / home use, you need to decrease the large volume of steam shooting into your milk which has the effect of heating it up far too rapidly.
The idea is decrease the volume, and have a much better time of texturing small quantities of milk instead of just blasting them out of existence uncontrollably and spiking the rate of temperature increase in the milk, killing it.
So I am replying to your question without replying to it......ie if you are mainly in small volume use & need to tone the steam capacity down, I dont think it matters what effect that will have if you want to occasionally texture a larger quantity of milk. Certainly it will be slower, but you can get round that by texturing multiple small lots of milk, one after the other.
Hope this helps,

...on a different note I saw my machine (even down to the colour) on Black Coffee (DVD set) in a coffee shop of one of the commentators on the DVD (sitting behind him in a number of the shots - which made me stoked because most of the ones they were showing were the big bad 4 group FAEMA levas - all shiny!).
Hi all. I have been considering - again - downing to the 2 hole tip from the 4 hole. When I use a litre of milk or so in a massive jug the 4 hole is sensational. For one latte or 2 flat whites however it is difficult to consistently get excellent micro-foam. Its good enough, but for latte art which I have finally trying its not fine enough by a tad. I know that a 2 hole will make the foam finer, but how much am I going to lose in power for big orders? Having asked that question it occurs to me that I can suck it and see and if the big steaming jobs take too long, I will bite the bullet and buy an arm and balljoint for the other end that currently has the fitting for Cuppacino Magic and have th best of both worlds - 2 hole at one end, 4 at the other end. But Im trying to avoid having to buy the arm and joint which is probably about $150 or so from memory.
