    Re: My new tamper #1803

Just got mine in the mail #1834. Just in time for my birthday. I ordered the Wenge handle - its a beautiful piece of art! I am amazed at how much of a difference it makes to the consistency of the coffee. Still trying to get used to it. Truly a great product - Thanks Greg !!

No. 1615 is performing beautifully and looking as good as the day it arrived, I dropped it once and it landed on my big toe, didnt damage the tamper but the toe was a bit worse for wear!!!

Honestly TG it surprised me as much as anyone else. Id never have believed it in a hundred years if youd predicted the present situation back at the beginning.

Just checked my number.....1801!......i got mine before you do da, do da..he he, good idea the numbering system, im guessing tracking?
We dont use it for tracking though if we got enough info it could be used for that; we measure and weigh each tamper base before theyre sent out and this info is kept in our database. The informations rarely needed but it comes in really handy when people come back to us later and say "Ive got tamper XXXX and it fits my mates baskets perfectly, can you make one the same for him?" and we then dont have to worry about getting baskets or whatever - we can essentially clone the one which is deemed to be an acceptable fit by the client. Its also very useful in helping us decide what size base to make in the event we dont get filter baskets sent to us - we can look at cases where we have made a tamper to fit a basket of a particular machine and check out all the details if necessary and get a good idea of what we need to supply. It also gives us a good idea of whether a particular machine has a history of large variations in basket sizes, which would cause us to rely less on our figures and push more strongly for baskets to be sent in or purchased for the job - so the final size we supply is based on a number of factors, our own experience and a bit of intuition. This last point tends to make us roll our eyes when we read / hear blanket comments such as Im tellin ya, La Cimbalis take a 58.1mm tamper, I measured it myself so I know dude! Theyre some of the little benefits you get over some other products on the market, even those made by well-respected manufacturers.

hey greg, do you have number 1 if not, who holds this invaluable lump of SS?
Hehe! Yes and no - number 1 would be the first Vanilla tamper I made for my Napoletana if it had a number (which thankfully didnt get sold with the machine so Ive still got that at home). But initially they didnt get serial numbers - after Id sold a few I did think of numbering them but didnt initially bother cos I could remember who had them all and what size they were, and doubted thered be much of a market for a non-disposable item such as a tamper. I eventually started numbering them once I hit about 30 or so sales just in case it went a bit longer than I expected. :

    "1600 tampers"?
Yes - Some time ago Greg mentioned that each tamper has a unique number (under the handle).
So, I immediately looked at my first tamper and found it was #213
And of course, when the new one arrived, I did the same thing to find its #1803

So, nearly 1600 tampers have been made in the meantime. Thats a lot of SS on the lathe.

Ok, its a bit creepy, I realise that.... maybe I can just leave it down to "Great minds think/drink alike"

Im not gonna lie either, my next purchase in about a months time is another grinder. Its down to either a Mini or M4... Im feeling the pressure to keep the constants.... Im leaning to the Mazzer though.

    YeeZa,

We certainly have a few similarities in our kits now.
I also have the LM 15deg PF - no naked though.

I predict you will fall for a Macap M4 or M5 next! ;-)

    Brett.

Great to hear Brett! The packings been something weve wanted to do for a while but time hasnt allowed until Robin started helping out. Glad you like it! Few know about the location of the serial numbers Re the steel, thats about 3/4 of a tonnes worth, so yep theres certainly no grass growing around the lathes at the moment!

BTW your Silvias still going as strong as the day I unpacked it!
