hey!
okay so ive got my silvia, an em0480 and up until recently a cheap 58mm stainless tamper. id been usin them for about a month and was consistently pulling some really decent shots.
i splashed out on a Pullman tamper last week and it arrived yesterday - and boy did it look great! i ordered a synesso r/l filter to go with it as well so everything fits perfect, but here is my query...
my shots have basically turned to crap - my first problem is that after my tamp, the match of the tamper to the basket is so exact that a vacuum is created, and it lifts the edges of the puck up, breaking the seal. secondly im doing everything the same as i used to, and ive got the grind so that its still pouring 30ml in 25secs, but it tastes rubbish and i can see that it must be channeling because the colour is nowhere near as dark as it used to be, and it blonds quite quickly... i used to use a convex tamper and the Pullman i got is flat, but i know the tamp is level cos the rings are level and the tamper spins freely.
jees im makin this pretty confusin... anyways has anyone had this before, or is it just really crummy technique on my behalf. i am in no way saying that the tamper is at fault - its bloody near perfect, but i am just after a bit of help to improve my technique and get a good shot flowing again
thanks for reading my ramblings!
cheers
